Best wishes to Tim Cluess. A really class act who had/has his priorities straight. Iona College owes a debt of gratitude to him. A real shame to see him move to this next chapter of his life this way. My hope is that the College is thoughtful about the decision on the next coach and not swayed by the wishes of a few for the shiny object. Do a thorough search and fully vet the candidates. The position and the program deserves it. I am optimistic the right person will be found and they will value the position and not look at it as a stepping stone. Not that it matters but if we don’t hire Jared I wouldn’t be supportive of the program anymore. I get your loyalties and all, but this may be a bit steep.

It might be but I see no reason why they won’t bring Jared in,I just feel it’s the right thing to do for many reasons, the whole situation sucks for all of us.

If pitino stays for 3 yrs Grasso would be ready and probably still at Bryant. I like Grasso but not sure he is ready or proven anything yet.Let him get to 500 next year then a winning season, then NEC title and then he should be ready

Why? ? At what price? Whatever he wants!! If you like to see Iona win a NCAA game get him at any cost c Petino will recruit kids that only he can get!!! Let’s see Grasso or Rick Petino 🤪

Pitino comes,we lose Gist and IW immediately,Pitino would jump ship on us the second he gets the chance, which would be quick,TC wasn’t a D-1 coach when we brought him in,wasn’t a popular choice at the time.

Pitino can potentially get us ranked in Top 25 again like Valvano & some W’s in Ncaa I don’t know if Grasso can do that he hasn’t proven anything yet

Pitino: Getting a former Kentucky and Louisville coach would be a huge get. He would be able to attract the A10, Big East caliber type recruit. You know damn well we would play some serious defense. Also, with his connections, I imagine we would have some solid non conference games.
Grasso: History with the program. Well respected by players and a solid recruiter.
Can’t go wrong with either choice.
Hope the school solidifies it’s choice soon.

The comparison of Valvano to Pitino is apples to oranges. Valvano came to Iona as a virtual unknown. He was the head coach at Bucknell and saw the Iona job as a step up. Not because of the strength of the program we were 4-19 the year before he came but because of our location in the N.Y. metropolitan area. I learned of his having applied for the job and his interview from a person close to the program. I was a junior that year. When he got the job he scrambled for late recruits and brought in Dave Brown, Cedric Cannon and Lester George to join returning junior Kevin Bass. Valvano came in with a clean slate and turned the program into a top 25 through the force of his personality. Remember his first year record was 10-16. He was less than half of Pitino’s age when he arrived on campus. If Pitino comes it’s only because no high major program will touch him. Grand Canyon is a for profit school so they’re all about the money. Pitino is perfect for them.

I know all the excitement and possibilities a coach like Pitino brings but there are downsides also. I will be supportive no matter who Iona brings in but I'm hoping it's Grasso.
