Was texted this by a fellow poster, thought someone else would have posted this already. Just saw that tweet. The Ivy league is expected to release a statement next week that that's their plan for this season. Let's not forget they were the 1st conference to cancel their conference tournament. The NBA is testing all of their players these next couple days. If the numbers are not great can't see the season starting in November have to correct myself. Moving the start of football to January. expectation is if football is delayed until January, so will basketball

I always thought that the January start date made the most sense if and it's a BIG IF a vaccine becomes available.

Rick a little long in the tooth so safety is a priority. If no delay there is always the possibility of a full body condom

Dr. Fauci even said we could have 100k people testing positive each day. Not good for the prospects of college hoops.

2 months ago I predicted a January start, about a month ago I thought a November start was likely, now I think it’s 50/50 for a season which would start in January.
The pessimist in me is worried we may never see Pitino actually coach a game at Iona if the season is cancelled. Wouldn’t it be crazy if we have Cluess in 21/22 Coach Iona with some of Pitino’s players? After all the hoopla it would be a tough pill to swallow to never see Pitino on the sidelines. I think this is not likely but possible should the season get cancelled, Cluess returning would make it easier to take, but all the hopes of msg games, major in season tourneys, National TV games and 4 star recruits would likely disappear, but winning would remain.
This has been an insane year, and for this scenario to play out would be just as crazy.

I don't understand the posts about Pitino never coaching at Iona IF the season is canceled, which I don't believe will happen. Is the concern a HM will come and grab him? Don't see that happening as well. If there isn't a hoops season that would mean there wasn't a football season.even the HM programs are taking a financial hit. Just don't see any program paying Iona 10 million for a coach who never coached a game after his return as well as knowing he would have to likely sit the 1st 15 games of the season. I'm not worried about it.

I'm not worried about it. Unlikely, but I find reasons to worry! One note it was pointed out somewhere that the 10 million dollar buyout was for one year and I believe it’s 5 million or less the next year and even less the next. Pretty much no one is paying 10 million but half of that or less is possible, but again unlikely. I’d Like to see the guy on campus at Iona, doesn’t feel real until he’s actually there coaching.

Yeah at times I think its to good to be true to be able to replace cluess with Pitino. Thought I read a article that the buyout went down 2 million for every year he coached at Iona, though I'm sure that was probably just speculation on the writer's part.

Sharkey, the buyout does go down every year. After year #1 it is 10 million. The number goes down after each year he manages, obviously after year 5 the buyout is 0. I heard Pitino mention that in an interview, Pitino laughed about it because he claims he is staying at Iona for the duration.

From reading the MAAC Board, I come away with the notion that Manhattan will have a bad year and that Masiello will be let go. Does anyone think that RP would hire him as an assistant? And if he does would you consider it a good hire?
