Just watched the Rick Pitino interview. First, Vin did great job setting the stage for Coach. In many ways, I felt like I was listening to Jimmy V - the vision, the passion, the leadership, the regaling(what cynics might call BS). Whatever! Even as Valvano was waxing me; he was winning me over. Why not! The passion and commitment was and is infectious - piss poor pun in this day and age!
Coach C passed a full glass off to RP. RP is pouring it in a bigger glass, and will fill that.

Some of my takeaways from RP's team evaluation to this point: his defense is tough to learn and if you can't play defense your playing time will suffer(my take) he feels Gist and Ross could be the best backcourt in the Northeast but need to improve on their off ball defense our starting power forward could be Nelly Joseph who is not there yet small forward up for grabs between Berrick and Rowe, Berrick a freak athlete(sounds like Harris at Siena) but Rowe a better all around bb player center position also up for grabs at this point with Brown having great energy and Shema with great potential once he bulks up didn't seem to talk about Chavez much except saying he was lockdown shooter that needs to learn how to play defense. I remember Casey saying the same thing. I had him starting but now wonder where he'll be in the depth chart. Also made a comment that Ryan Meyers was probably under recruited
Anyway great interview and loved the bluntness of RP!

One thing to remember is that the whole "starting 5" discussion is not important when Pitino will almost certainly go 10-11 deep, especially early on. Gist and Ross are very safe to start and play the most minutes overall and I still feel that way. The rest is completely up in the air re minutes played but I'd expect balance.

This is an exciting time to be a Gael. I enjoyed Vin's interview with our new coach.
It was interesting to hear Coach Pitino say he looked forward to coaching at Iona over the next 5 to 7 years.
Go Gaels!!!

I don't know RP at all, even though I met him at Saratoga about six years ago. But Guy posted that the interview with VP was getting media coverage, and I'm wondering if his comments about his team had hidden meanings? When he said that Dylan had to get stronger, and this was not hidden, this means that he would benefit from a year in our new, and improved, Weight Room. However, there were some other, more subtle comments that he made. Or am I just reading too much into it?

Really surprised that Nelly Joseph is considered the top recruit in this class. I thought it would have been Shema by all the hype he received. I actually thought Joseph was going to be a project that would contribute in a year or two.
Guess I'll never be hired as Pitino's talent evaluator.
