Hey everyone...just curious as to what you've heard about Pitino's staff that's currently taking shape at Iona. I heard him say during his media interviews the past few days that he's already hired two and hopes to have the staff complete in a couple of weeks. Three head coaches that have been fired this season - Walter McCarty (Evansville), Allen Edwards (Wyoming) and Scott Padgett (Samford) all played for Pitino at Kentucky. I also know that Casey Stanley, am Iona alum, was the Video Coordinator for Pitino at Louisville in 2011-12 and was on Richard Pitino's staff at Minnesota so he seems like a logical choice if interested. McCarty is probably out since he was fired at Evansville for Title IX violations. Should be interesting to see what happens. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the board!
It feels like Stanley may be on the staff, as Iona just offered a kid that Arkansas St recently offered.
Padgett might be a good lead assistant--I feel like the lead has to be someone Pitino can leave the program with whenever he decides to move on, be it after 1 year or after 5 years and 3 Sweet 16 trips.

There's a report on Twitter stating that Tom Abatemarco has been added to the staff. Been around college hoops a hundred years.

There’s a great story about Tommy recruiting Spud Webb and bringing V to the Raleigh airport to meet him for the first time.

Another former player that's part of the "inner circle" is Tony Delk, who was an All-American at Kentucky and played ten seasons in the NBA. Delk served as an assistant at Kentucky for a season under John Calipari and also spent two years as an assistant at New Mexico State. I highly doubt that he's in the mix for a coaching job, but you can bet that the Atlanta, GA native will still be an "unofficial" scout of great talent in the Atlanta region. Very smart guy, well respected and always a vocal supporter of Coach Pitino and his ability to teach the game at the highest level. He recently did an awesome interview on Coach Pitino on Mad Dog Sports Radio.

Keep in mind our current coaching staff, as they might all be out of a job. It's a tough profession with a lot of money for guys at the top, but a lot less for guys on the bottom. Hope we keep at least one AC and that the rest are able to find jobs. Fingers crossed.
