I'm a little confused also IC59. Was Cannon the first recruit for Valvano? Dave Brown, Cedric Cannon, Lester George and Charlie Alberti were Valvano’s first recruits at Iona.

I'm a little confused also IC59. Was Cannon the first recruit for Valvano? Confused or just plain Cilly? That's what quarantine has done to me. And yes Cedric was Jimmy V's first recruit. Remember JV was a relatively late hire. CC was a 6'5 PG from the Stanford, CT area. He only lasted a year or so when JV brought in Glenn Vickers. Just thought that the names starting with the letter C was of interest to me. Also, both coaches knew that they needed PG's.

I remember Jim Valvano telling how he danced to Motown with Cedric’s aunt during a recruitment trip to Stamford. V had many recruiting skills.

Cedric Cannon - a blast from the past - wasn't from Stamford, he was from Bridgeport and graduated from Harding HS. He was V's first recruit and his final two choices were the University of Nevada Reno and Iona. Despite a "fun filled" recruitment trip which included casino visits etc., that Cedric who traveled together with Edgar Jones to Reno, V landed him. To bad V couldn't land Edgar, a 6'10" PF who played 15 years in the NBA as well as Europe, because he was a beast! Cedric is a great guy unfortunately wore out his welcome with V and the classroom! I think he still ref's games in Bridgeport. He was also a 2nd cousin of Calvin Murphy.

So, I know some of you think we are going to pick up the 4 and 5 star recruits now, but this type of guy is more likely what we are going to get. This looks like a great get and a guy who could shine in the MAAC. More than likely, most of our signings will be 2 and 3 star recruits. Heck, if we get lucky and pick up a 4 or 5 star guy that will still more than likely be one mare than anyone else in the MAAC has.

He transferred to Sacred Heart cause Valvano promised him he would start for 4 years. Also, a little tidbit.. Hamilton would have transferred if Valvano landed Jimmy Black(NC)from Cardinal Hayes .

Funny I was just thinking today on when we were going to hear out about our verbals signing their letter of intent. Hopefully more to follow soon.

I agree, I can't wait to see him play. Looks like the three point assassin type of player that can turn a game around. Plus he seems to have a pretty good handle and is quick.
