Agree with GuyF. Foolish to mention us in the same sentence as Gonzaga. We are about five gazillion steps away from being able to have that conversation. Nobody mentioning Gonzaga.... Just a consistent winner and invitee to the dance.... and we will get some wins FINALLY with upgraded talent and coaching

Let's pump the brakes a little on expectations. Lets win some non conference games, lets draw 2k people to our home games. Good things ARE happening, but lets win the Maac . Only a matter of time before someone says we belong in the MT. West or Big XII, before the season starts. I thought that was strictly a Loudonville affliction. PS I used to think 05 was the MOST optimistic poster on here, he hasn't changed, he is now the voice of reason compared to some of the stuff out there.

I think there are some of us that are setting ourselves up to be disappointed initially. I am as excited and optimistic about our future with RP at the helm as most out here but to think we're going to be a mid major power overnight seems a bit like Siena syndrome.
There's a good chance this team could struggle out of the gate like past Cluess teams have as there are going to be 6-8 new faces to integrate with the roster plus the current players have to learn a new system. I have no doubt that Pitino will turn this team into a contender for the title but it will take time and patience to get the players in here that will make a true jump to the next level.
I am a huge fan and have watched this team for over 40 years and have experienced every possible emotion this team has brought me and now my suggestion is let's just slow down and enjoy the ride, it should be a fun one!

With so many new faces, team chemistry is unknown at this time.

I believe top 40 since I do believe after looking at RP first class he will be here for at least 5 yrs. It is something we can maintain if RP also leaves us or gets us a quality HC to be his succesor. Iona can become the job older coaches want to end their careers at to enjoy why they got into coaching in the first place.

I don't know. Maybe we made a mistake. Pitino has been on TV all weekend. First, Kentucky-Duke in 92, Then Kentucky - Arizona in the finals 1997. Does this guy ever win? I just keep watching him lose.

Realistic expectation would be somewhere between Vermont / Murray State and VCU / Dayton caliber.

I think being the dominant team in our conference with enough out of conference wins to be an at large if we don’t win the MAAC tournament is a realistic goal for the program. We should be a perennial mid major top 25 team and crack to top 10 on occasion. Comparison with other schools doesn’t make sense. Our current situation is unique among mid majors they don’t have RP.

Realistic expectation would be somewhere between Vermont / Murray State and VCU / Dayton caliber. Well, Dayton was #3 in the country with a realistic shot to win the whole thing this year, So, OK, I guess I would accept that.

Quite honestly I would be happy with some HM OOC wins, not the bottom feeders, but pulling a upset of a ranked team. Also want to finally see the NCAA win.
Pitino is who he is, one of the top 5 college coaches of all time and a HOF coach. Having said that this is the rare case where a HOF coach has big shoes to fill. Cluess went to the NCAA tournament I believe 6 out of 9 years? Plus getting one of only 2-3 At-Large bids in MAAC history. Oh yeah, throw in a record 4 straight MAAC championships. Also had multiple straight 20 win seasons. Outside of upsetting a few top 20 teams and NCAA win(s) Pitino has huge shoes to fill.
I am not overly concerned about being top 40. Iona is in the MAAC, and outside of Siena will have lots of teams very low in the NET/Kenpom ranking, especially the way teams are losing players. That's 18 games against 200+ ranked teams.

THANK you Sharky. Jesus Christ. Top 25? Regular at-larges? Holy shit, we've become the Siena board.
It's outright DELUSIONAL to even set goals of that nature. The MAAC has not had a ranked team since friggin LaSalle THIRTY YEARS AGO. The MAAC has had THREE at-large bids in its HISTORY. The league on the whole is at its lowest point in its HISTORY.
IF we can get back to where we were in the early to mid 2010s (top 100 RPI/kenpom, 20 wins in regular season, OCCASIONAL CHANCE at at-large), and just add in the element of picking up a couple more quality OOC wins and of course get an NCAA win, I'd be THRILLED. But this crap of rankings, regular at-larges, etc, don't qualify as GOALS, they qualify as DELUSION.
