Love this board so much! But why compare to other teams and programs? You have a 5-7 year window with RP to do something special so just focus on the same plan with a few minor tweaks. 1. Win the MAAC and automatic bid (the selection committee will always choose Power 5 conference teams with worse records for at-large bids so there’s still only one path to NCAA Tournament). 2. Get some votes for Top 25 and get RPI up with better non-conference games and possible upset at a neutral site. 3. Here’s the big one: You have to get on the 8-10 line in the NCAA Tournament to get a winnable game. I know you see the occasional 12 beat a 4, but Iona is 1-14 in the Big Dance because of very low seeds. Get to the 8-10 line and it’s on! 4. Dream Season would be a Sweet 16! It’s very possible - I’ve watched it happen twice with Southern Illinois University - a mid-major in the MVC. Fun conversation - but any talk about Gonzaga is wishful thinking. Again, I’m an outsider looking in so you have to get Iona in the national conversation with more prime time ESPN games and some good non-conference match-ups. IMO, schedule is very weak right now. As an example, just playing at Kentucky (or a neutral site) gets you on ESPN or the SEC Network and is huge for boosters, recruits and national exposure. Even if you lose, you win BIG! Baby Steps... Ya know, I'm starting to get tired of you and your practical, reasonable posts!

If someone is on a diet, I agree that goals should be realistic otherwise you can get frustrated. Would a good coach tell his team: "I know we can't them, realistically we should be able to stay within 30 points."? Apple, oranges and mangoes thrown in for good measure. Sounds like a smoothie!

Personally, I love ESPN3 and often go to college websites and pay for streaming if I really want to watch games. But if you think about this as a national campaign for Iona BB - then you have to expand your base and reach a new (much larger) audience. I don’t have any data to back this up, but I can bet you that the EuroLeague had a surge of new subscribers to watch Euro basketball when RP went to Greece. I even watched a few games myself and checked Euro standings on a regular basis. That’s the real Pitino Effect - same thing is happening now. I already have people asking where they can find Iona games next year.

12's don't play 4's (at least not until after a first round win and a trip to the second round)

I love the optimism and aspirations for the Pitino era at Iona. Dare to dream, aim high in case you fall short.
I keep thinking I'm in a drinking game and have to take a shot every time Guy says: delusion or delusional (should I have used caps?).
Lighten up, we're having fun during a difficult time in history.
FYI - I'd be happy with a good OOC schedule (with a few upset wins), a MAAC title and through the moon with an elusive NCAA Tournament Win!
Cheers everyone, I hear a delusional comment on the horizon.
Wishing you all good health - stay well!
