If we ever evolve to host guests on video, yes, Zoom would be the way to go.
Guy, I think Vin Parise or Adam Finkelstein would be excellent options if your looking to recruit other guests to share their wisdom about Iona and the MAAC in general. Both very knowledgeable.
OK, so here's the thing: I know a good number of posters would like to remain anonymous, which makes it challenging for them to join a video session. A phone one wouldn't be a problem, as no one's going to be outed based on the sound of their voice. Where I'm going with this is that I don't want to invest in setting up Zoom and then alienate half the regulars out here who don't want to show their faces (or for technical reasons aren't able to do so).
That said, I like the suggestions of Parise, Finkelstein, and Thompson. Chels, unfortunately I don't think I could get any cast members from Black Sails to join us LOL. CTBill, I could think of other models I'd prefer to meet us here other than Heidi Klum!
I also think, from a video perspective, Iona's athletic office can and should put together those types of sessions. Certainly there's no harm in having any of those 3 on even though Pitino and staff have yet to be formally introduced--and I don't think we can have Casey or anyone else from the staff on until that happens. We also have a world of time, it's only April 8 we honestly have 6 MONTHS before we're even knocking on the door of Meet the Gaels. So, we certainly can figure some of this stuff out, and spread out guests and such. Jaden joining for a chat session is an easy one--he would do that any time.
I am also going to try to set up our chat room a bit differently so I have more moderating tools.
I also have been considering doing an IonaHoops.com weekly (or biweekly during offseason) podcast, where I would host and have guests on each episode. I have not looked into the financials of this, but I don't think it's too bad. And if we do that we can set up a separate pinned thread right here on this board where you guys can submit questions for the guests. I am liking this idea more and more but it may depend on the financials and how much time I would need to put into it.

Guy I'm pretty sure when you do zoom conference it will give you an option of just audio or video. Those participants that didn't want to show their face could just choose audio.
Guy, you can count me in on whatever you decide, including financial support to make it happen. Knowing you are taking the lead on making this happen, I know it will be a success 🏀
Yup, I know that too, but again, why set up a video platform if half the people aren't going to use it?
One more note on the podcast thing: if anyone would be interested in co-running with me, let me know that too and we can figure out whether it's logistically possible.

Guy - i think that chats are cool, but the podcast (bi-weekly sounds about right) is the way to go IMO. Strike while the iron is hot and take advantage of the pitino publicity.
While there isnt much to talk about now that hasnt already been covered, there is much to cover about iona's hoops history. I think there are former coaches (assts most likely), players, and even former team managers that could help share not just their thoughts on the new hire, but their stories and history with their amount of years with the program.
Have some test runs and I think it would be in good shape for when it comes time for the season to have guests like pitino or maybe even the president of the college.

This is good feedback as well. I am still exploring the podcast idea, and its feasibility. It's nowhere near as expensive as I was anticipating, so no need for financial support--and if it were to really take off, I'm pretty sure I could get a sponsor.
But yes, lining up guests of all kinds would not be a problem. I know of at least 5 former players off the top of my head that I "know well enough" to reach out to directly to participate--and, hint hint, one is even a former coach. :-)
And then there are of course many folks in the media that I could have on, from folks who cover Iona to beat writers from other teams that I could get on leading up to a meeting with said teams. There are also well-run fan sites/pages/podcasts out there and I wouldn't hesitate to get some of those folks on, either.
I could also get a recruiting expert on--for example, given that Pitino went heavily into the JUCO ranks, I could get one of the JUCO recruiting guys on to talk about the guys we got verbals from.
And lastly there are people from Iona. I don't know if any would or could join a podcast that is not affiliated with the college. But certainly Glovaski, Beyrer or Stanley would be great guests. I am 99.9% certain Pitino would not join us, ever LOL.
Anyway, stay tuned. I am still in the info gathering phase, on many fronts. As I continue to gather said info, I'll be able to share more, like, for instance, whether I'm actually going to do this. Thanks to everyone who has chimed in here or reached out separately.
