The good thing is, and I think Super said it early on in the chat, is that these OOC games are really just glorified scrimmages for us. We were not going for an at-large bid, there's just 3 games. One of my disappointments last night was that the guys were tired in the second half, and we were toast anyway, we should have played Crafoord and Rowe more. Crafoord especially had a quick pull after a terrible minute or two out there, but that would have been an opportunity to give him even 5 more minutes to see what he could do with the pressure off.
That said, Merrimack is an important game in terms of confidence. Hofstra isn't Seton Hall but they will be challenging for us. Merrimack has ability but hasn't played a game, so we need to settle in and play a more even game.

Re-watched some of the game, which I had taped. And, also read RP's presser and looked at the boxscore. Came away with a couple of things: 1. Didn't realize that Ross played 39 minutes. Hope he's able to play fewer in the next couple of games, as I think 39 is too many. RP said that he didn't have a good game, despite his game leading 23 points. Rick based that on his zero assists total. 2. Rick rightly attributed the loss to our 22 turnovers, imo. Going into the game I was most worried about going up against a frontline that had a 6'11 and a 7'2 guy. But, we weren't killed on the boards. 3. Meyers and Chavez split the game at the PG position, even though neither were described as a PG. They combined for 14 points and four assists, along with two TO's. A pretty good line. My question is that going forward, is there any chance that we'll see both of them on the court at the same time? I hope so, even though, both are shorter than the usual RP PG's.
I think Ross played that many minutes because Gist was not out there.
I also think that with Ross and once Gist is back you won't see much of Myers and Chavez together, and because we have so much frontcourt talent I don't expect us to play much with a 3-guard look.

Guy, I don't disagree, but I'm talking about now, before Gist returns. Of course, that could be anytime, starting with the Merimack game, based upon Casey Stanley's take on the latest podcast. Still not sure how much is coach speak, when it comes to injuries.
As for the front court, that when Shema returns, can we expect to see him and JJ on the court at the same time?
based on the little we saw on NJJ along with the reports on Shema, as well as video if some if his games in JUCO, I would not be surprised to see both start. On offense at least in JUCO spent quite a bit of time outside the paint because of his perimeter game as well as being a very good passer from the high post. They both can coexist on the offensive end. Defensively they would dominate the boards and be great rim protectors.

If that happens, then DVE is getting demoted--and Pitino is high on him, and was even after his rough game the other night.
But this won't be an issue for a bit, as it appears Shema's going to need time. So I'd expect DVE and NJJ to start together. I don't expect a different starting lineup vs Merrimack from what we saw vs SHU.

True. Very good point on DVE. there isn't a bigger fan of DVE than myself and yeah Pitino is high on him. Only concern with his game vs SHU was like somebody posted, he didn't attempt 1 FG in 17 minutes. Hopefully, he is more aggressive vs Merrimack on the offensive end. He has the talent to be a 8-10ppg type of player.

Never thought I would say this, but I actually enjoyed watching Iona’s defense against Seton Hall. It was a WOW factor for me. Also, never thought I would say this: The Defense is ahead of the offense! To me, it appeared that we are not yet comfortable with the offense. And that was true even in the first half when our 3 point shooting bailed us out. Giving Seton Hall full credit for their performance, all of the newness and covid was apparent in the second half. Seton Hall exposed it, and our guys did not have the legs or the comfort level to adjust.
NJJ showed better to me than any of the video I had previously seen. He is a handful when he gets the system down. I am also really impressed with Ryan Meyers. His composure is impressive considering he was running an offense that we don’t yet know. Zero TO’s in 20 minutes of play.
It’s going to be fun. Good thing because the ledge can only run at 25% capacity because of covid, and social distancing is in effect. On the other hand, we could take a page out of the current Administration – push them off the ledge, and not count them as a covid fatality.
Unfortunately DVE has become gun shy. Last year it was the same thing. He would have wide open threes and instead of pulling the trigger he would pass the ball off. It seems to me he has really lost confidence in his shooting ability.
