More often I'm seeing boxscores with a rating at the end of the player's stat line. It's listed as a + or -. In Hockey it's considered as a big indication on the player's performance. And it was explained to me that it was determined by the player being on the Ice when a goal was scored, either for or against. Of course we know that there is no comparison in the points scored in hockey and in BB. So, the Iona-SH box showed only one Iona player with a positive number. And that's not surprisong when you lose by 22 points. That player was Omar Rowe who had an eight rating. My question is, is that rating determined by the points scored (for and against) when Omar was on the court, or is it determined by his entire stat line, starting with the minutes played, etc. Does anyone know, and do coaches pay any attention to this?

Exactly the same as Hockey. Strictly points scored.

Exactly the same as Hockey. Strictly points scored. Greg, thanks. But, don't forget the second part of my question, how much stock do coaches put in these numbers?

I'm sure one of the coaches on the board could answer that better, but I know in the NBA, they put at least some emphasis on it. While it is an individual stat there are other factors that affect it. Most importantly who else is on the floor for your team, and who is on the floor for the other team.
