OK, here's why I asked this question: my listenership has greatly decreased since going to per-week format. Yes, I get that I should be taking it in 2-week blocks--meaning combining the audiences for 2 podcasts instead of 1--but that is not accurate as there are folks who would have listened to each ep whereas before when it was every 2 weeks each listener was being counted once. I am also aware that it's easier to go back in time and listen to the older ones in general, and particularly the ones that are not time-sensitive. For example, if you didn't listen to the Rider preview episode, you're not very likely to go listen to it now since we've already played them.
In short, I was wondering whether those of you who were listening during the offseason are able to "keep up" with the weekly format. I don't listen to a lot of podcasts but I know it's hard to keep up with weekly ones.
It has also been suggested to me a few times to keep them shorter, which I have tried to do, especially during the season. I think when it's the offseason and I have a random guest on it doesn't matter if it's an hour, but asking people to listen each week, I agree they should be shorter episodes. Thoughts from y'all?

Agree with your last paragraph. All for half hour episodes in season and 50-60” Podcasts in the off season.

Guy, I don't think that this is a good time to make changes. Too much other stuff going on, in order to give you intelligent feedback. I'd suggest waiting until the first week of January, and ask the question, again. We'd be into a routine (schedule wise) with weekend games. I know that I'll be looking to fill time between games, and your podcasts could help fill that void. JAS.

I didn't say I was going to make changes--and, the votes here and on Twitter say I shouldn't anyway. I merely asked because I saw a trend among listeners and was curious.

I would vote to keep the podcasts no more than 30 minutes.

Have you ever thought of making a twitter or maybe even instagram handle that's dedicated to simply just the podcast? Instagram is where all the younger people are at. Just compare the likes/comments on Iona Athletics compared to Twitter. It's a landslide.

Just my opinion, but even though it's not an "official" iona basketball podcast...The Athletic department and school should want to help promote the podcast. The school itself clearly struggles with promoting its own Athletics. The proof is in the attendance and interest on campus. It would be mutually beneficial. The retweet to win the mask was a good idea the other day. Maybe Iona can at least help with providing masks or similar small items for giveaways for any future podcasts.

So here's another issue. This thread has had 237 page views but only 16 votes. That's a whole lotta Iona diehards who don't listen, and another bunch who listen but didn't care enough to respond.
To get back to the point, I have demographic data for spotify, and it says nearly half of listeners on that app are age 45+.
When I get some down time, I will extend my insta reach as I follow many of the players. Perhaps I can comment on their posts and share podcast info, etc.

Guy, a big problem is you are competing with Christmas preparations and families that want to watch holiday "specials." I like to listen to the podcasts over Bluetooth speakers. When I do that I get a lot of feedback. Should have never bought that TV in 1970.

If you are serious about the feedback when listening, I will check that out.

OK, here's some serious feedback. I think you are running across a number of issues. Some of these are common to many podcasters when they start. Some are just due to the limited scope of your audience (Serious Iona Gael basketball fans). When I started my business a few years ago my partners were convinced that we could grow our business completely organically through social media. This turned out not to be true. Social media helps, but you need to have an audience to target and this takes time and effort to develop. The problem is where is your audience? Are they students on and off campus? Are they local Westechester residents interested in Gael basketball? Curious Pitino fanatics? You have to find them and reach out. Not an easy thing to do. I also think the fact that we are still caught up in this Covid thing and still can't actually go to games has impacted interest. I'm not seeing the overall growth in interest in our program yet. I know it's there, but without having games in front of real fans it's not evident. Some of it is also dependent on the success of the team. If they go on a 10 game winning streak and national media picks up on it, that will help also help. Unfortunately, that's not likely to happen this season. I think you have something good here. It will just take some time to figure it out and grow this. Patience.

For what it’s worth - As a young alum, I can tell you that the best place for content to attract the (for lack of a better term) millennial fan base would be Twitter, Instagram, etc. Maybe create some sort of fan page there where you can link the podcast amongst other things? Just a thought.
