Wagner will not happen. Pitino will not play at an NEC school nor will we overpay to host them.

They DO have a NET similar to ours, but it will drop once in league play. FYI: I know we have reached out to more than a dozen schools since SHU bailed. No takers. Consider this a NEGATIVE of the #PitinoEffect, though of coursen this is an extreme situation.

Not big on the Maryland game. They are #117 in the NET, 65 spots below Iona. Players are home for Christmas, likely not returning until tomorrow at some point. Tough to ask them to only have one day to prep and go play Maryland, a game I don't think will move the needle as far as at-large hopes when it's all said and done
Rather wait until February and play another very good MM, like the old bracket buster days

In a normal year when an at-large wouldn’t be in the conversation I think you do whatever it takes to make the team better and prepare them for conference play. This year is somewhat of an anomaly since we are probably a bubble team right now so you have to evaluate other factors when looking at a mid-season scheduling addition. I suspect Pitino is going through the calculations to determine if we are an at-large if we hold serve in the MAAC (17/18 wins), and if not, then what type of OOC win would put us over the top. The Maryland game is right on the edge, tough call.

Also, will anyone be available down the line and will they play us? Either way it's a gamble.

Maryland was a Top 20 team who has now plummeted all the way to Sub-100, with players that have one foot out the door and with a coaching search that is starting from scratch. They have great talent, but how could anyone know what to expect from them for the rest of this season?
