"With the help of Iona's head coaches, Iona Athletics celebrated and honored a "Gael of the Year" from each athletic program. Here are all of the 19 Gaels who took home accolades for the 2020-21 season." Berrick JeanLouis is Men's Basketball Gael Of The Year. A great selection! This young man leaves it all on the floor every night. Hope they follow up by naming him captain next season.

Did anyone see who the Women's team selected as their POY? They named someone who wasn't even a player, and I can't understand it.

Greg, I must have missed that. Probably confused by ALL the other Iona teams that had a player (I believe) win the award. I guess that all the other teams were being very unfair to their coaches and managers.

Just because the other teams did not choose a non-player doesn't mean they weren't considered.

And, what was the criteria?
P.S. BJL was the #1 defensive player and maybe the #4 offensive player.

I think BJL is going to be really better offensively this year,we really didn’t have a point guard last year to utilize his athleticism, his production will happily surprise many!!

I think BJL is going to be really better offensively this year,we really didn’t have a point guard last year to utilize his athleticism, his production will happily surprise many!! . . . which may be the main reason he was selected as Gael of The Year. He adjusted his game to the needs of his team. Without that block on Pickett, we may be looking at staring a new streak instead at rooting for a six peat. Greg: You can root for the six-pack, too. I agree that his production will increase, but I think it will be in line with the needs of the team. He is the rare Iona athlete who could showboat. He has chosen not to, other than the occasional flash one step inside the foul line dunk.

BJL is in my mind the priority recruit for the class of '22. With his improved 3pt shooting and ball handling he can slide in and replace Jolly as the starting 2G, the fact that it would be his extra season and not count against the scholarship limit is just an added bonus. BJL at the 2G would allow Pitino to play size like Slazinski and Wildy at SF

Key player. I suspect it was left up to each team to name someone they felt was qualified. Maybe the team itself voted on it, and the ladies team voted for their manager. But I have no idea. Also have no idea why this is a big deal to you.
