Queens State Sen. Joe Addabbo, who chairs his chamber’s Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee, told the Daily News that negotiators have agreed to bake three casino licenses into the budget.
Two of those licenses are likely to be given to the Resorts World Casino in Queens and the Empire City Casino in Westchester County, Addabbo said. Both of those locations are currently only allowed to offer slot machine and racing betting, but with full casino licenses, they could start hosting table games like poker and blackjack as well.
Hopefully the rumored arena will follow shortly thereafter.

This has been talked about for ages. Hope it finally means something.
Wow. Maybe the Yonkers arena will finally get off the ground after all. MGM is dominating in the CT/NE area from what I hear. Wonder if the trend will continue in Westchester.

Our company retreat is at Mohegan most years, and I get up there a couple times a year beyond that. Haven't been to Foxwoods in like 10 years and have never been to MGM.

Getting closer: "The deal allowed the state to expedite licenses for three new casinos for the New York City area, in addition to those already operational upstate."
New York Senate majority leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins has been pushing for this to happen. The various trade unions are also pushing for it.
Jim Murren, chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts Internationals, he grew up in Fairfield and his father was a Fairfield Prep and Fairfield University graduate. So he is very familiar with the MAAC schools.Murren has also made it clear that he is very focused on the sports and entertainment part of this project. They are planning on having the New York Streets, the National Arena League football franchise, move to their facility as the currently sponsor them. Under his leadership MGM played huge parts of bringing the Vegas Golden Knights Las Vegas Raiders and the NBA summer league going to Vegas.
If we are interested in using the arena we need to be having conversations with them ASAP and throw public support behind the project.

Great intel, thanks 86.
BTW, where would the arena fit strategically into our plans in your opinion? Seems like between the upgraded HAC and the magic of playing at MSG and Barclays we have all the facilities we need?

First let me say I love what has been done with Hynes. I believe that the Admin did the best job they could with the limited space on campus. But, using the new arena could be the answer if our facilities are the reason we are running into brick walls with joining the A10 or other league. Also, it could help scheduling OCC games that are not played at the Garden or another big arena. We can't afford 4 MSG dates a year, but think about MGM sponsoring a tournament and we are the home team. Schools that would never consider coming to New Rochelle might come to a 6.000 seat arena to appease their local alumni and for alumni traveling they could stay in new hotel with 7 or eight restaurants, gambling, other entertainment and close enough for traveling alumni to visit NYC. Plus you have the bars on McLean a short distance away for meetups, pub crawls and after game celebrations.
Pitino wants a basketball only facility... maybe Hynes can be that with the other sports looking to use Concordias facilities? Just a thought.

Thanks 86. Makes perfect sense.
Just wondering if we would be able to draw at an off campus arena. We can barely get 2,000 into the comfort of the HAC. But your reasoning is spot on.

That is where McLean Avenue comes in... first Irish or domestic drafts for each person providing a used ticket stub for post game fun. It is funny, every time I go down to McLean for dinner or breakfast, I always wear some Iona gear as so many of the kids working over there go to the college. They are always quick to come over and introduce themselves. A few weeks back it was a member of the rugby team who was in grabbing breakfast and one of the waitresses , both came over to tell me they were currently at the college.
We would also have to work with the City of New Rochelle and the City of Yonkers to make sure they have bus service with stops at Iona, Empire city and McLean... and have them running late in the evening.

LOL fair enough. Sold. If we build it they will come.

I miss going to Rory Dolan's.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.
