05, so far our quality mid majors are not quality. If we play 2 teams in the top 100 and a bunch closer to 200 not sure why players would come here. Pitino is a draw but every coach played majors. Pitino seems not to for whatever reason. Penn and Vermont if they win out will be lucky to crack the top 150. Bonnie's is not good. We used to play 3 buy games vs top 25 teams and play at msg. If our top games are st Louis and New Mexico and everyone else below 150 it will be very disappointing. Everyone on this board was speculating when he first came, Kentucky, UCLA or any other big programs he had connections with. Be honest would you have thought when Rick got here the Billikens would be our best game? We used to play very challenging buy games on the road and we got our pants beat in every time - Arkansas, Kansas, Syracuse, etc. Maybe one or two more premier OOC matchups would be great, but I am satisfied overall with the scheduling. Remember last year we did play both Bama and Kansas on neutral sites. Plus SLU at home is a great get for us. I don’t remember having a home game at this level since St Joe’s over a decade ago. That tournament last year was scheduled before Rick

What is so bad about our schedule? Seems like bunch of quality mids mixed with a few Top 50-100 teams like UNM, SLU, etc. What am I missing? 05, so far our quality mid majors are not quality. Pitino won’t play buy games and he won’t play a big program unless they give us a game back at one of the major nyc arenas. He’s trying to change the brand of the program. Many of these teams also don’t want to play a top mid major.

Pitino is doing exactly the right thing. The problem with playing a true up schedule is it would be mostly true road games and at this point we would lose 80 - 90% of those. You have to win, so you have to schedule winnable games. So, you do your best to make those games challenging. Nothing is 100%. No idea how we will do, but suppose we go 8-2 and then 18-2 in the league? (not saying we will). Don't care what the rankings that's going to look better than 4-6 losing to a bunch of power 5 schools on the road.

Need to play a couple of power 5 or big east teams every year. Can’t trust playing projected good mid majors, often they turn out to be nothing more than a 150th rank team. Even a bad power 5 team is usually top 100. Our fans get a lot more excited about playing power6 teams, that’s what will get fans at MSG, USB or Brooklyn, not Vermont or Delaware. That being said St. Louis at Hynes as good as we will ever get at home, hope they can come in there with just the one loss, and turn out to be a top 40 team.

Basically you may get the opportunity for 1 game a year like that, maybe 2 if you are in a tournament like we were last year. When was the last time we beat a power 5 team on their home court? That's the option. If we ever get to the point where we could be competitive in those games I'm all for it. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Alabama game. If we can get more shots at tournaments like that, I'd love it. Easier said than done.

I think you actually just made Greg's point with your mention of St Louis. That's the first Domino to fall. More to come hopefully.

Well, St Louis beat Providence today, so we may want to put those tombstone orders on hold.
