We had no business losing this game. It's not business, it's just personal. I mean personnel.

Well'p, that was just awful defense. I posted after the UNM game that you can't give up 80-plus points in a college game and expect to win, and we did it again on the next outing! Oy vey!
I'm not sure what the heck happened there defensively. I'll have to rewatch this one, not as a form of torture, but simply to wrap my head around what exactly we did wrong in attempting to stop SMU from scoring. This was an SMU team that came into the game ranked outside of he top 300 in effective field goal percentage, 2-point percentage and 3-point percentage. In matchups against teams that ranked inside the KenPom top 100, SMU had lost all five games by an average of 15.6 PPG, with all but one coming by double digits. This is the same squad that was 0-6 in all contests against Quad 1, 2 and 3 opponents on the year. We've gone from knocking out a Saint Louis team that was ranked inside the Top 40 in offense per KenPom to this display. Not good.
I hate to say it, but going strictly by the numbers, this team has been better defensively without Slazinski. With Slazinski, we're 1-3 overall and giving up 73.6 points per game, and in Slazinski's last three games, we've allowed 83, 82 and 85 points.
We also coughed the ball up more than usual today. Slazinski committed five turnovers, and Clayton Jr. gave it away seven times.
Bottom line, allowing a team to shoot 60 percent and post 85 points is unacceptable. It's nice to make buckets and score, but if you can't stop the other team from doing it, then it's a lost cause. RP's teams are generally defensive juggernauts, historically speaking, and this team has been excellent defensively versus much better offensive opponents than the one it faced today. I suppose if there's a silver lining, it's that I believe RP will figure it out defensively and turn it around. The sooner, the better.

Hard to turn the page on this one. Hope the team can come back from this but not sure about that. Not the end of the season. You have to tip your hat to SMU. I don’t think Daniss & Walter will be putting “Nutella” on their toast tomorrow morning.

"The Curse of Peter Hamilton" P.S. Keep Peter and ban the NET/KenPom/Other Rankings thread. +1. The only "at large" talk should be about our D.

We had no business losing this game. It's not business, it's just personal. I mean personnel. That would not go over well with Sonny Corleone.

Once you get past the inbounds against our press, the only D left is Nelly. New Mexico and SMU attacked our press, especially when Shema was not on the inbounds pass.

He left him in after he made two crucial turnovers. In Slazinski's first game away, we held a Vermont team (ranked ahead of SMU via KenPom) to 22 second-half points on a neutral floor. In that game, our best defender, BJL switched over to Slazinski's 4-spot and scored 23 points.
