Iona should consider giving Walter McCarty a call. Not sure if he has any interest in coaching, but he was impressive in his short stint as a head coach...the only coach to ever lead a true mid major (Evansville) to a win over a No. 1 team on its home floor (Kentucky). He'd also be good with this roster, as he was a longtime assistant on RP's bench at Louisville, and could keep the same system in tact. He was also an assistant under Brad Stevens with the Celtics. Some weird title nine thing took him out of Evansville, though I heard it was hearsay and never checked out, fwiw.
No thanks. Pitino was "cleared", look what it got Iona. If Pitino does shit on Iona and the players, why would Iona want anything to do with anybody connected to Pitino.
Hope you're right, but not sure why you think this roster sticks together.
There were rumblings a couple guys might leave even if Pitino returns
Not everyone in RP's coaching tree has his insatiable ego; actually none of them do; so I wouldn't hold anything against his former assistants in that regard. Willard, Sendeck, Richard, Keatts, etc., those are humble dudes.
Yeah, maybe I'm naive re: roster sticking together. If I'm a player, I want to keep this group together and come back with a vengeance next season. It's a special group. I realize I'm old school, though. Who knows what these kids think these days.

Nothing to do with anybody associated with Pitino, but that's just me.
To be clear I want him to return for the good of the players. If not see ya, and anybody in his coaching tree
Guys… let’s not jump at all the news reports. We live in an era of fake News. We have Iona fans contacting players wishing them luck at their next destination. Stop acting like chicken little … the sky is not falling. Our AD staff is on top of things and the next week or two will tell us if Pitino is a man of his word or not. Either way Iona will survive.

I don't blame you. Agree, I want him to return. But that link you just shared before doesn't sound good. Or fox-sports is just throwing out click-bait. Journalism died a long time ago, so that's possible too.

Willard is humble???
Yeah, Ralph Willard has always struck me as a pretty humble dude

Ralph is! Kevin...
Yeah Super, I don't know anything about Ralph's boy (I keep forgetting he was at Iona, so I'm guessing you guys know him well, I'll take your word for it).
Most of RP's coaching tree are cool, humble dudes. Tubby was one of the best; classy, humble. Herb Sendeck, one of my all-time favorites, personality-wise. Richard P. has always struck me as down-to-earth. Kevin K at NC State, humble pie. McCarty went into Rupp Arena, handed his No. 1 ranked alma mater an "L" and did it with class. (I heard from a good source that Walter was railroaded at Evansville, fwiw).
I would love to see everyone who can return from this team return. Coaches, players, team managers. Everyone. It was a great season that ended with a rough loss. The sky is not falling. Everyone comes back, plus a couple solid players, another great season is coming, hopefully with a better ending.

Heck yes! Really just a rough last 20 minutes. We played a great first half.
Sanogo is a terror. I think we should've zoned UConn or tried quick double-team traps on Sanogo. Our bigs simply couldn't play him straight up. Same thing happened when RP faced Tim Duncan in 1996. His bigs couldn't guard Duncan one-on-one, but he devised quick double-down traps to limit Duncan to zero field goals in the first half of the Elite Eight game.
So I didn't like RP's defensive strategy in the second half (and I've been wanting to see his matchup zone all year), but credit to UConn. They're a great team. Ultimately, I'd like to see RP devote the offseason to fine-tuning his matchup zone and half-court defense. Even RP admitted at halftime what I've been saying all season...TV timeouts are too long in the NCAA tournament (you don't need depth), hence you're not wearing out teams with a press anymore in this day and age in the Big Dance. They get too many breathers in the course of the game.
So frustrating. What do these programs have that we don’t? Happy for all of them, but man it would be nice to break through and win a tourney game at some point.

I’ve really enjoyed rooting for this Iona team. Hard working, good guys, and they gave us a fun season. Thanks Gaels!
I’d like to see this core stay together. Whatever happens with Pitino, Iona will be fine. I trust the school and the AD to make good decisions.

They got good matchups and the teams they played shit the bed. It's not a coincidence that Virginia and Purdue are both on this list twice.

As a retired journalist, I've got to agree with you. Real journalism is gone.
