A few thoughts… Bring on the pipers on St Patricks day - they led the Gaels on to the court at first Iona NCAA game vs Penn in Raleigh, NC back in the day. Would be great to see that happen again! Someone mentioned Jacks Oyster House. It is closed. 430 start enables me to hopefully attend. Now to find a ticket. Ed Iona 1968 Ed, I was at the 'Reynolds' Barn for that game, but have to admit that I don't remember the Iona Pipers being there. It was the first of many painful loses I attended in my traveling days. Maybe the worst was the loss to Syracuse when the ball took a bad bounce from an Iona perspective. I didn't feel too bad knowing that we'd have most of the team back the next year. But then a few days later I learned we also lost Tim Welsh to Providence. Looking back I'm reminded of Charles Dickens' Tale of Two Cities. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times". P.S. Contact Tom Moran at Iona for ticket info. 59…don’t mean to go off topic, but that 98-99 team could have been incredible. We lost John McDonald and Donell Mitchell from the 97-98 team, but the rest of the team returned, including Kirksay, POY Hameed, Jason Young and a young Nakiea Miller. I believe we were receiving Top 25 votes in the preseason. It was Ruland’s rookie year as a coach, and I always felt like if he would have inherited that team with a few more years of experience under his belt we could have had one of our best seasons of all-time. Instead, we had a mediocre season and a disappointing first round MAAC Tournament exit to Marist.

I agree, but unfortunately get ready for it in every interview he has the next few days. This article just fueled it even more, by basically saying he has to go see the SJU campus, if there's mutual interest..lol. he knows SJU has interest. If he didn't have any he would just say so like he did with the Maryland job. He could have ended all the bullshit today, but he chose not to do so. Let's hope the guys enjoy the experience of March Madness and pull off the upset. Quite frankly, this week is all about them and not Pitino nor fan base I don’t see the allure of the SJU job for Pitino. He can build a much better legacy at Iona and not have to deal with all of the headaches that come with a small time program in a big time conference like SJU. I get the sense that coach Pitino is truly torn and undecided based on his statements in the press. A few days ago, I was convinced he was gone to SJU. I’m not so sure that is the case anymore. $$$$$$$$$$$$$ and the Challenge

Yep it really is disgusting and the media should be ashamed for causing such a distraction to these kids who deserve this moment. Shame on Pitino for not just shutting down these stupid questions too. I'm sure RP has his guys focused and not paying any attention to any of that noise. The players were locked in yesterday in the win. The media is never going to be ashamed of anything, it's built to generate click-bait. The NY Post has always struck me (as a non-New Yorker) as tabloid rag. NY Post is a total rag. It’s sports writers have been St John’s shills for many years now. Pitino loves the attention and it feeds his ego.

I think there is a little too much concern about how tough Iona’s draw is. This is the tournament. There are no Easy draws. The ones that look easy are not easy. UCONN came in 4th place in their conference and did not get to play in their conference championship. But they are somehow the 4th toughest team in the country because of some statistical rating? They are clearly very good. Iona has its work cut out. But Iona CAN win the game. St. Peter’s had to beat Kentucky & Purdue last year. And the game is being played two hours from campus. Its not 2,000 miles away.
As for Pitino’s destiny, I think St. John’s would be a terrible choice. I think there are better options, including staying at Iona. St John’s has been a very flawed program for 40 years. Not a well-run program. Not a well-run school. But it is his life. He is free to do whatever moves him. That is not my point. We can’t control what the media take and spin will be on Iona this week. But we can control what OUR take is on this Board. Let’s stop talking about Pitino leaving. Let’s stop posting articles that piss us all off. Let’s talk about the Gaels. They are a very good team led by a great coach. They have a shot to win a couple of games. Let’s go!

We should have an advantage with our guards and BJL. UConn will have advantage up front. Key will be Shema's ability to withstand stronger opponent and Nelly staying out of foul trouble. We can press this team effectively.

I know that Rick is a HOF coach, but is he also someone that sees the future? And that is why he brought Taliek Brown to Iona?

If St Peters could beat a 2nd seed Kentucky, we can beat UCONN. That Kentucky team had 5 ★★★★★'s, 6 ★★★★'s, and 2 ★★★'s on their roster. That was 9 Top 100 recruits, 6 Top 50 recruits and 5 Top 25 recruits. If we keep our composure, disrupt their offense with tough D and we are on from the three... we can win this.

SPU didn’t just beat Kentucky. They outplayed them, as well as Murray State and Purdue. They were simply the better team hands down for two weekends in March.

We can press this team effectively. We will need a few minutes of solid play off the bench from Silas... If he can log 5 to six minutes, grab 3 or 4 boards while putting up a basket or two, without any dumb fouls, it will be a big help.
