For how many minutes was Iona leading this HOME game? I can see preaching about "mental toughness" if you lose one with a few minutes to go. Seems more of a case of equally talented teams playing Maac level ball. Lower expectations and let the kids have fun!

The Free Throw shooting is abysmal for this level. It was abysmal for any level! Our kids think to much on the line and too little on the court. There no spontaneaty in their play. Exactly. Surprisingly low instincts and missing opportunities on offense and can someone take a charge for God's sake. Brickners turning point dunk off that inbound play made Dunne look like a genius courtesy of Panzo's failure to switch as Tretout was being picked - aren't seniors supposed to recognize that? Two and a half hours of mud wrestling. Hopefully, just a Colorado hangover. Hurry back Oz... this team misses you!

I said this in real time. Was baffled at what he was thinking.

When you play a Dunne coached team you have to fight though the muck. We didn’t seem ready for Dunne ball. I’m so glad Dunne is not our coach. Dunne won the game for Marist. He worked the officials the entire game and that helped big time in what fouls were called and not called. Then near the end of the game, with the score tied (I believe) he used his last TO with only six seconds left on the shot clock. And that led to a beautiful alley oop pass and dunk by Brickner to put the Foxes ahead. Definitely caught us by surprise. He's known for defense and not offense, so I can understand not wanting him at Iona, but last night he did a VG job.

Very difficult to watch. Last night’s victory notwithstanding, Dunne’s lack of success over the long run speaks for itself. He coaches a crappy, unwatchable style of play and over his long career has lost 60% of his games.

We missed ours they hit theirs in the last 10 minutes, that was the difference, nothing to do with refs or calls

Bottom line, for whatever reason, the guys were just a no-show. Committed 19 turnovers, majority were unforced like just dribbling off their feet and knees, while also not playing with a sense of urgency except for a couple quick possessions and the last 3 minutes.
The team really needs Terrell Williams to play up to his video and 3 years of career D1 stats. He played 25mpg scoring 8.3ppg with a line of 48/36/70. Iona needs that other offensive weapon from the perimeter. Without threes falling last night, the offense was endless forced drives to the hoop which usually ended with a turnover or bad shot. Unfortunately, the times they were fouled they missed the free throws

Say what you will about Ricky he brought in above Maac level talent. No doubt about it..... He also was signed to coach the Gaels around the same time Tobin signed three years later. Even with Covid restrictions, Pitino was able to put together an above average team. I knew this would be a down year after three great years and losing Pitino, but losing to Marist at home is unacceptable. It was a poorly played game and poorly coached. I am afraid we are looking at another Arnold year. Huge game tomorrow. Another loss, and this year can fall off the rails very quickly.

Marist lost in the final last year and have most kids back in the same system

Unfortunately, the times they were fouled they missed the free throws I think a problem that has led to THESE problems is that some guys are not looking to score at all. If Adewale and Brice are not going to even threaten to shoot/score, their bigs can just wait for our guys to drive, and with no threat inside their perimeter defenders can be more aggressive in taking away our weapons like Panzo. At least Saunders will shoot it when he's out there. Would also like to see Aranguren finish his drives the way Quigley does. I thought at least twice last night Aranguren drove into the paint, had a step on his guy, but stopped and kicked out rather than complete the drive. Some of this is due to playing the frosh heavy minutes, which has to do with Os not being out there. I know we've all talked about Os quite a bit. It's not that he's some superstar, he's not coming in and averaging 20 per game. But he does change the dynamic on both ends just by being out there, because he is a threat to score (and is a better passer than our younger bigs) and he obviously changes our look on D a bit as well. Bottom line, patience is a must. Yeah, we need our grads to play better, but it's not always easy when they're out there with 3 frosh on the floor, either.
