When I was in college, late fifties, there was a player (forget his name) who was from NYC but playing for NC State (I believe). Seems he left the team over the Christmas break and returned to NYC. There was a writeup about him in the News or Post, telling about how he got homesick, but he then changed his mind and returned to school. The story said that it had a double happy ending, as one of the team's assistant coaches had bought a car in NYC, but had to come up with the money to have it delivered to NC. But, lo and behold, the player was able to help the coach out and he drove it down to NC.
I thought nothing of it, until Iona coach, Jim McDermott saw me reading the article and commented, "I hope he got a NEW car."
My point is, this has been going on for a long time.

FWIW this is a proposal for discussion at this point. No one has confirmed it will happen. Will have to be voted on by the NCAA membership, I suspect.

I think Baker is motivated by rumored discussions between power conference schools to separate from the NCAA, at least for major events, and keep all the money. He's protecting his fiefdom, major change to keep the NCAA from fracturing. It may work but I doubt it. Greed! Greed! Greed!

He's protecting his fiefdom, major change to keep the NCAA from fracturing. It may work but I doubt it. Greed! Greed! Greed! The NCAA gave the Power conferences too much autonomy and stopped enforcing the rules where those schools were concerned. If they had hit NC hoops or USC football with a loss of 10 scholarships (Hoops) for and 30 for football when they had the chance and banned them from any postseason games for 5 years they would have sent a message. Instead they let the inmates run the asylum and the next step will be to have an all Power conference NCAA tournament. You do not soften rules to appease these assholes, you kick them to the curb. With NIL be abused, a school could lose 10 scholarships and still pay players enough to play for them that they would not miss a beat. The NCAA's greed has created a toothless watchdog. I hope the Ivy league changes their scholarship rules, Invests their endowment funds with various Wall Street firms that then funnel money back to the NIL programs.... I want to see Harvard invest some of that $50billion endowment on their football and hoops program just to teach the Power 5 schools that they were no longer the Top of the food chain. If I was a kid and Harvard was offering $1 million a year in NIL money for me to play PG and Ohio State could only offer me $300K, I would be like "Ivy Education. a lot more money... fuck the hot cheerleaders, I'll be fucking average to ugly Boston debutantes for the next 4 years." Harvard, Yale, Princeton could be spanking the NC's, Arizona's, and UCONN's.

No longer enjoy professional sports; with NIL, Transfer allowances and the potential of Bakers proposal will probably end my enjoyment of college sports. High school and youth sports are becoming more and more appealing.

Then you should know parents didn’t dare interfere with my leadership. Then again I’ve been away from youth sports for 7 years 😉
