I wish Tretout left with Gordon. Stopped watching, just couldn't do it any longer and I never turn off games. Tretout and Tobin had words on the bench?
I love Oz, but honestly it's painful watching how the injuries have hurt his production. Hate to say it, but he was getting physically abused on the defensive end. This season is shot, has been for a couple weeks. Saunders was supposed to redshirt this season, but since that's likely no longer an option, have to get him some experience for next season. Same with Brice, see what he has the last 3 games of the season, and probably 1 tournament game?
Buckle down folks but unless Tobin lands a few impact Juco kids, next season will be another total rebuild season.
Why is next year a total rebuild? The way the NCAA is going every season is going to be a total rebuild. 🤣
As of now, next season the roster will be 5 sophomores, 3 freshmen and a junior who you received more PT than.
I guess that would be acceptable, he would be telling the truth.
That wouldn’t be acceptable.
Of course it wouldn't acceptable. I'm just very disappointed in how this season played out and hopefully he can turn this around next year. I was just venting
The last thing Iona fans have to worry about is a player getting poached.
As far as recruiting for next year, hopefully JUCO kids. IF they recruit a grad transfer, has to be a guy that played a role on a winning team. We saw this year can't rely on transfers who were never THE guy, and expect them to be leaders for only 1 year.
Even Cluess, who was the master of the grad transfer strategy, always had a foundation of continuity on the roster. The 16-17 team was basically a grad transfer haven - Severe, Caselle, Lewis, etc - but there was a backbone of players who understood our culture and had been with us for the previous season(s) like Jordan Washington, Ricky McGill, Deyshonee Much, etc

I get that, but the returning players next year are not as talented as the Cluess teams.

Honestly I don’t even know what a mid major coach should do, frosh, grad transfers, jucos, they all have negatives and positives. This is why I thought you just build a team around a combination of all of them, but not sure that will work either. These are never before seen times for college basketball. I hope for the best but I am very worried for our future.

Tobin’s season ended last year, immediately got a new job, then had to go out and recruit 12 players as if Iona had never played a D-1 game before and we were starting a program from scratch. The guy is probably exhausted by now.
I think he had the right approach. Be wary of guys who are only interested in NIL money. Try to find guys who want to be here. Looks like he missed on a couple but live and learn.

No question about that. We have a long way to go to back to Cluess levels.

And BTW I don’t know the Gordon story but if he was a problem he has to go. I don’t care if he is your best inside scorer and rebounder. That’s how you build a program. Integrity.

Agreed. I see some posts about Tretout and Tobin arguing on the bench. If true, sit his ass Sunday.
Never had high expectations this season..new coach(and staff)…new roster…new system. But, have not seen any upward improvements in this team. Disappointing…yes. Looking forward to next season(I hope)

Scary thought. Siena is 4-24. Sadly, Iona might be their only hope for 1 more win.
You can make the argument that they will return more talent than Iona next season in Emejuru, Ojo, Durugordon, Eley and I think Durugordon and Eley are greatly overrated

Tobin was going at him hard and it seemed Tretout was just sick of it and talked back a little. I’m not the biggest Tretout backer but I kind of didn’t blame him for defending himself, though I don’t know what they were saying. I think at this point neither are fans of each other, and you can’t have this with a coach and starter if you want to win.

Thanks. I couldn't watch, so didn't see it. Needless to say I'm not a Tretout fan
