1. Defensive POY-Nelson (Niagara) 2. POY-Rossiter (Siena) 3. ROY-Jordan (Niagara)
I feel good that I'm correct with the first two choices, but it's a question as to whether the League will want to award two Purple Eagle players, since the team finished so far down the ladder. If that's the case then Drummond of Loyola could be selected. Oh, and I forgot Cooley will be COY. What does everyone think?

Sorry IC, I cannot post such profanity on this board. Lets hope Timmy gets some consideration.

Fairfield was picked for first from the start. Didn't achieve anything that wasn't expected. We were picked 4th and achieved 2nd place. The team won 20 games. Cooley should not be COY it should go to Tim

IC...Not so fast on Cooley..If.....The Coach of the year award is given out after the MAAC Tournament, and Iona wins it then Coach Cluess is my choice.......
He is a 1st year Coach who had brought a exciting brand of Basketball to Iona and the MAAC....Although both Coaches had to deal with many injuries, the difference is that Cluess would have had to work his way through unfamiliar territory, to bring his team into the NCAA, while Cooley the pre-season favorite did not.....
Of course visa-versa is in effect....
Go Gaels!!!!!

My (admittedly biased) pick would be TC as coach of the year.

All awards are given out prior to the tournament, OT.
Cooley will win COY. Sorry, guys. POY will be Rossiter, ROY will be Drummond from Loyola, DPOY will be Nelson.

Both POY and COY are tough to choose or predict this year.
No team really exceeded expectations by much this year. Iona and Rider did a little bit (picked 4th and 5th in the coaches poll), but that was partly because Hayseed Nation was so overrated (It seems amazing now that they picked 2nd, with 3 first place votes. Good job, Mitch!).
Without a surprise team, I assume it will go to the coach of the regular season champions, Cooley.
There is no classic POY candidate this year. Rossiter has the best numbers, but his team is way below .500. Normally, that would pretty much disqualify him, but maybe not this year.
Needham would win under the best player on the best team theory, but he shot 36% from the field and averaged 3.9 turovers per game. He would probably be the worst POY in MAAC history, at least according to the numbers. Plus he is only a sophomore, which would work against him in the voting.
Glover had great numbers on the 2nd place team, but Rossiter's were better. Also, he faded quite a bit as the season went on. Being a junior and a first year MAAC player won't help him either.
I'd say Glover probably deserves it (though Rossiter would if his team were above .500), but Rossiter will probably win. I wouldn't be shocked if Glover and Rossiter were co-POYs either.
This sort of reminds me of 2000, when it was between Kirksay (who would be like Glover, best combination of stats and team success), Phillip (like Rossiter - arguably better numbers, but team not quite as good), and Faison (like Needham - best player on best team). The fact that they were all seniors made it even tougher. The big difference is that, IMHO, any of those three would have been very deserving, while this year I'm not sure anyone really deserves it.

"All awards are given out prior to the Tournament"
Thanks Guy......
Makes as much sense to me as giving a posthumously award to a person who is not dead yet....
Did not want to start another thread...but....My guess...Friday... Siena -6 1/2 -7 1/2 over Manhattan..........Niagara -5 1/2 -6 1/2 over Marist.............Home court not in play. This double header will surely not break any attendance records.....Funny the past couple of years, no ride was to far for Siena fans, now 3 hours is a world away...... ;D
Go Gaels!!!!!!

My guess is Rossiter will be POY.
Though it's a yearly award, I thing the coaches will give consideration to his entire 4 year body of work.
Agree with Guy that the first year player thing will work against Glove.
I don't have a problem with it, RR has been one heck of a player throughout his career.
Really don't care about ROY or DPOY... nobody really remembers them (IMO).

I have no problem with Cooley getting COY - they had a great MAAC season. This is no knock on Cluess, who's done a great job IMO. Really could care less who wins these awards. Only award I'm interested in is MAAC Tourney MVP.

Only award I'm interested in is MAAC Tourney MVP. I agree that MAAC tourney MVP is the on eyou really want. (though I wouldn't mind if Rossiter gets it by putting up 40 pts and 30 rebounds in a loss in the PIG, while Iona wins the championship). I do care about POY, though. I think COY is the most overrated award. Former MAAC COYs include: Jack Armstrong Speedy Morris Tim O'Toole Gordon Chiesa George Blaney Paul Cormier Dave Magarity Mitch Buonaguro On the NBA level, Phil Jackson has 1, the same number as Byron Scott, Mike Brown, Mike Dunleavy, Don Chaney and Richie Guerin (only threw him to praise an Iona grad). I'm sure Phil wouldn't trade even one of his 11 championship rings for 10 more COYs.

He has really revealed himself to be a classless jerk in the past week. He is going to look really stupid when Iona beats SPC in the finals.
