Softball questions from Joe B. No discussion of Iona comments though Cooley did allude to them as "in the heat of the action" type comments. But, no direct mention of what they even were. Most laughable were Cooley's comments as to how a strong ooc schedule is important to the MAAC. Disappointing. Joe B sounded like Larry King probably because he didn't do his homework on the league.

Agree SIGael. He mentioned that he used different motivational techniques to keep his team focused, including some off the cuff remarks. He did allude to Iona as a good team.

Classic that Cooley talked about schedule. His schedule was the worst I've ever seen for a MAAC team projected to finish first. Total embarrassment.

Joe B. wouldn't know Iona or Fairfield if they fell on him. This is Mr. Met getting his coach some equal time.

See ya later, dawg.

If Cooley leaves, John Dunne would be a good replacement, imo.

You won't see a coach go from MAAC school to MAAC school. Besides, Dunne may very well be considered before Cooley at Providence.

Report on Providence board saying that Cooley is theirs.

If Cooley leaves, John Dunne would be a good replacement, imo. Not gonna happen. Ensor would not allow Siena to interview Dunne last year. Siena was interested in speaking with him but was told the MAAC has a policy that doesn't allow a head coach to interview for the same position with another MAAC school. Stupid, I know.

Tim Welsh made a mistake going to Providence and it eventually (combined with other factors) cost him. Providence to the Big East is like Fordham is to the A10 - bottom feeder. They can have some bright moments; but, in the long run, they will never be successful. They should both admit they are over their heads presently and move to conferences where they can be relevant. Cooley would be making a big mistake to go this route. I may not like him, but, he is a good coach who will have much better opportunities open to him in the future.

While I agree that the expectations at Providence far outweigh the resources, I'm not sure going there turned out that badly for Welsh. He lasted 10 years, which is a pretty good run, and left with enough of his reputation intact to be offered something like $600K per year to coach Hofstra. Also, Dawg Cooley was born in Providence and has strong ties to Rhode Island, so the job would probably be much more attractive to Dawg than to most any other guy in his position. If they offer him tons of guaranteed money, it would be an OK choice for him. I think the college basketball world understands how challenging the Providence job is, so even if he gets canned there after 3 or 4 years, he could at the very least find another good mid-major job, right away, possibly better. Keno Davis is already being mentioned for several openings. Also, you never know what will happen at Fairfield. An injury here, a bad recruiting class there, and they could easily fall back into mediocrity and Dawg could lose a lot of his luster.

I think the right AD and Coach would do wonders at FF. They play in an awesome arena. They just haven't captured the hearts of non alumns/FF County residents.
It should be a top gig in the Maac.
