scuguest, For the bulk of the media in New York (The N. Y. Daily News being the exception) Iona basketball is an afterthought. As to radio, I would expect only a grudging, token mention of the game on Wednesday in the vein of "upcoming events tonight" mention. The only possible discussion would be from Mike Francesa (who we lovingly call Fatso) on his radio show on WFAN which is also shown on the Yes Network. Fatso has a disdain for Iona that results from his immense store of knowledge (just ask him any question - if you disagree in any way, you are dismissed as an idiot) combined with his love affair with the Big Least and, in particular, St. John's (or as we call them, St. Chicken). On the other side, Fatso is actually a longtime family friend of our HC Tim Cluess. In his last mention of Iona, he, in one sentence, was able to show his love for TC and his detest for Iona. He said something to the effect of - Tim Cluess is too good for Iona which will only be able to keep him for a couple years. As to ESPN TV/Radio - I would expect little if any mention, other than a possible score update, especially since the game is being carried on a rival cable sports network. Hopefully, you will be able to get much more attention in the San Fran market than we will here.

Another Santa Clara fan here.... 10pts seems just about right to me. The only decided advantage I see the Broncos having over the Gaels is free throw shooting. All 3 of our go to guys, Foster - Roquemore - Trasolini, are very solid at the line. I believe we are 9-2 in games decided by less than 6pts and attribute much of that to clutch late game free throws by those three. Both of our guards (Foster and Roquemore) are really more combo guards than point guards at this stage of their career so they have to help each other out when dealing with intense ball pressure. And by that I mean, neither one is what you would consider a one man press break. Foster shoots, and shoots, and then shoots some more. You almost have to see it to believe it. He leads the nation in 3s made and has taken far more 3s than anyone else. Foster averaged around 12 three attempts per game in conference...and in the first game of conference play he took 20 threes! Foster is not very athletic, or quick, and he does not jump very high but he does have an uncommon ability to change pace to get where he needs to go; and shoot in traffic with a rapid fire release. If anything, he should provide some good entertainment for the Iona fans. I have posted two links.... First is Kevin Foster's freshman Highlight reel. He broke his foot last year and has put on some weight since this video from two years ago. He is a redshirt sophomore because he was able to get a medical redshirt last season. www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9V-j8BKDF8And this video was taken from the SMU game. He is #21 in black. If you watch the clip at the 3:18 mark then you will see a prime example of how he just likes to shoot from anywhere . www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHzeSFgU6qM&feature=player_detailpage#t=196sAs our team has matured, we have learned to win without Foster playing well. However, against a team the caliber of Iona, I know Foster is going to have to shoot well to keep it close. But anyway, best of luck this week!

I think you can say SC won, w/o even playing a game. Three days in NYC and practicing at MSG, not too shabby. A nice way to end your season, regardless of the outcome of the game.

Santa Clara guys, what ever became of that huge player I saw many years ago? His name was something like Reisz. I recall that he was interested in becoming a wrestler.

Santa Clara guys, what ever became of that huge player I saw many years ago? His name was something like Reisz. I recall that he was interested in becoming a wrestler. For more information about Ron Reis, you can read here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_ReisA little personal anecdote: I grew up in the same hometown as Big Ron. I remember playing against him in soccer when I was in 6th grade and he was in 5th grade. I was left wing, he was right fullback. He was not very agile, but he was TALL (I think he was probably 5'10" by then already). As I was speedily dribbling downfield, I saw him in front of me...I tried to dribble around him. He didn't even play the ball. He just stepped in front of me. I don't actually remember what happened next... ...I just remember laying flat on the pitch and my coach was standing over me trying to get me conscious again! Ron was a good hoops player, even though he had only about a 2" vertical leap and he had very short arms for his height (we using to kiddingly call him Tyrannosaurus Rex). He was also a great personality. Last I heard, he had become a farmer.

Buckets, I recall seeing a picture of him zooming along on a skate board. Here's a guy the size (almost) of Andre the Giant with the heart of a kid. One of a kind.

Buckets,
Thanks for the story and your experience with Ron Reis.
My favorite Santa Clara player was Kenny Sears who I believe played with the New York Knicks at the same time as Iona's Rickie Guerin.

Yeah, I see this as a tight game. Both teams s/b able to get their points. Looks like it might come down to who can make some big stops late. Should be fun.
