According to Rivals.com, Iona has offered a ship to Marcus James, a 6-6 forward from Seward County Community College. Rivals indicated he visited Iona at the end of April and took a visit to Sam Houston State this past Friday.

I wonder how many other offers the staff has made.

Rather have a freshman... jucos are higher risk.

I'm with you CJB. Plus I wonder what the staff knows about this player that don't show up in his numbers. Seems like he mght be the third best player on his team. Kind of curious

I'm quite certain this kid isn't our only target.

Agree. Jucos can come aboard at any point. For that matter, I guess the same holds true for freshmen... didn't McFadden join the team in July last year? Maybe he didn't sign an NLI?

I think this team is one player away from being a significant mid major.
The kid who de-committed and is now going to UMass could have been that player. As good a talent as Majok appears to be, I'm not all the way there that he can give this team what it needs - rebounding and ability to stretch the defense. Majok looks like a great successor to Alejo.
With all the other pieces in place, I hope the staff can find the size and athleticism it needs. While I agree that a JUCO is not ideal, it may be the best route to get the help this team needs now. Alejo, Chris, Keon and Mike are all effective inside, but you know at all times where they are going to be.
Majerus brought in a 6' 8" gunner from Australia last January, and St. Louis U took off. All of a sudden, Willie Reed (Alejo) looked like an All American.

I can't see a mid level prospect like James or anyone else deciding on Iona when there will be little playing time available. Would agree that the staff is seeking someone who could be a real contributor this year. The bar has been raised.

My guess is the assistant with the overseas connections is working on bringing someone in from Over there.

Since we are all waiting for the 19th of this month, I took a look at the NCAA regulation in reference..It is my interpertation that it means little except it is the last day a recruit can sign a LOI, and it will signify by the signings who/and if we get, and indicate who we will not get...Coaches can still recruit, and offer scholarships after that date, although the pool will diminish......Sound OK...
I am not overjoyed by speculation as to James...He projects as a nice journeyman player, but not the true power forward that we need to fill in that void....To many times last year we were overpowered up front by Bulk even from medicore players........
Go Gaels!!!!!!

I think we'll probably know more about our situation within the next week or so.
