Just saw where MoMo says Iona could be elite eight or final four. This team better stop reading the headlines. If they believe the hype, we'll be lucky to play .500 ball! Only one thing will get us to the NCAAs and that work, more work, and more work. There are nine teams in our league that can beat us. The one MAAC team that can most easily beat us is ourselves.

Hey Momo, this is essentially the same team (+ you) that lost to SPC--that's right, SPC---in the MAAC finals last year. HARD WORK!
Give Momo a break. Listen to how he said it, CJB put a link of the interview on Gaels in the news. The way he was asked, it was hard for him not to respond that way.
What I love about this team is it is going to score like crazy and be tough to match points with. I think replacing Arod and Dwight with two better scorers will make this team much better. You can't look at a traditional 5 man lineup, this team is Glover & the guards. Score, score, score some more.
I also feel this is the opposite of Willard's teams, they were decent but they simply couldn't score enough to win consistently. This team is going to score so much they won't be able to not win consistently.

One thing about Momo is he doesn't lack confidence, (he's walked the walk) and IMO this team needs a guy like that. I think Momo believes what he said, and if he gets the other guys to believe that too, I think that's a good thing. As a fan I think Momo is the kind of player you flat out hate if he's not on your team, but because he's on your team; your crazy for him.
Maybe, just maybe, this year Iona drains that buzzer beater for a win, they beat that BCS school instead of just playing a competitive game and they make a run in the NCAA tourny because this guy has instilled a confidence in this team they haven't had before? Me; I'm tired of waiting for the other shoe to drop, I think Iona got the talent for a great year, maybe this kids swagger is what's needed to make it happen! Go Gaels
couldnt agree more ghost....at least when he acts like a hotdog... hes our hotdog!
However, I do think momo isn't the 'leader' of the gaels squad. This is glovers team --- he's our horse and he has proved himself to us. I feel like people in the media are turning this into momo's team
I could see momo having trouble dealing with not being the "star" of the gaels. The team was solid last year and tourney quality. I just hope someone like momo doesnt rub teammates the wrong way or ruin the chemistry this team worked so hard to create last year. Lets hope he fits in and doesn't try to steal the show
No doubt that the article adds to the buzz for the team, but I would warn about having expectations that are way too high. For a while I thought that we'd have a 'feel' for how the team would do after the Purdue game, now I'm not sure we'll know even after the Puerto Rico tourney. I'm thinking back to Cleveland, last year. Two things: 1. The Colts went into the season, figuring that Peyton would soon return and that they'd win at least ten games. 2. The Cards went into the season, having lost their best pitcher in Spring training, and fans figured, "Wait till next year".
I say, you never know. Yogi says, "It's never over, till it's over".

Great points. This team still has questions at two positions. To perform at the level of a VCU, we will need strength at these positions, and not just adequacy. Does Iona have an "Allan Craig" and a "David Freeze" in the wings?
The only thing I don't like about your comparisons is the expectations were driven by the loss of the anchor on each team.
I'm afraid I may be morphing into joebird - not this year's rose colored glasses joebird, but my dear friend Mr. Pessimist.
Great news about our two exhibitions, but I would like to hear some news about the performance of our 5's and 3's. Mike, Scott and MoMo are obviously doing their thing so far.
Also, I read on this Board that Purdue may be taking us lightly. I am far more concerned with us taking Purdue (etc.) too lightly.
Hey, maybe joebird will share some of his happy pills.

WHO IS THIS YEAR’S VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH? With apologies to Butler (which has become as much of a household as Duke these days), VCU was the shock of last season, going from the First Four in Dayton to the Final Four in Houston. While the Rams are reloading this season under coach Shaka Smart, which team could step in as a potential super-sleeper Final Four candidate? We’re putting our chips on Iona, out of the MAAC, with Mike Glover and Scott Machado a lethal inside-outside combo. They’ve also added Arizona transfer guard MoMo Jones. Several coaches have told us the Gaels have “top-eight Big East talent.”
