I know I am gettng way ahead of ourselves with this post, but I like to do that.
Iona has had several good teams since 1980 but this one is the most powerful since. Sure this team still needs lots of work, especially on the Defensive end, but to me there is no question this team can beat anyone, and I mean anyone in the country.
Now I can see this team losing to someone like Canisus, but I truly believe this team is so good offensively that if they were a 9 seed and won their first game they would have a great chance at knocking off a number one seed.
You simply don't get many chances like this year. I would say a mid major like Iona can be as good as this once every 30 or so years. I just hope not being able to schedule any majors doesn't end up never giving this team the opportunity in March to play the big boys. I hate the fact that all that is going to matter is those 3 games in March just to get there. They can't have one stinker in the Maac tournament like last year. It would ruin a monumental opportunity.

Definitely the most exciting team since Ruland and Co. beat Louisville & Kansas (and won a NCAA game) BUT this team seems not to have learned its lesson from last year about maintaining 40 minutes of intensity and defense and that scares me. This is a veteran team. No excuse. Hopefully they cream Maryland tomorrow. GO GAELS!

I agree. This team has looked awful at times in this brief season, but they can be so damn good offensively that the sky is the limit.

i agree. college hoops is becoming increasingly dominated by guard play . . . especially in the tourney. and iona has a couple very good ones.

When you have the fire power on offense like this team does, without a doubt you can beat anyone in the country, anyone! When you play defense like they do; you can lose to anyone in the country, anyone!

I'm not sure about best team since Ruland. I'd take the teams with Steve Burrt Sr. That guy was a freak.

I am not as pessimistic as many are about this team's D. We are an uptempo team . You can not go up-tempo, and lock down D at the same time - no 95 - 60 games. Having said all that, we do need to be able to get stops and so far have not been able to do that. Taaj is a JUCO, and has to learn to play D at this level. He is too good an athlete to not be able to play D. I am oping that Mike can pick his spots at this stage of his career. You can not go the way Mike goes at the offensive end, and then come down and play 35seconds of D. I agree with Doug Gottlieb. Iona has to clean up its game on both ends of the floor. Get rid of the lazy passes and walks. Yes, play some D when you need to get the stops. If we clean up our ball-handling, I don't see anyone forcing us into a slow-down where you have to play D for 40 minutes. Hey, we just about to play our 3rd game, whereas many are 5 or even 6 games in. Thanks for the happy "pills" joebird.

ichoops, wrong, wrong and wrong. Why am I not surprised. Why must you question "the authority"? Steve Burrt Sr. was the man. LaSalle was the only thing stopping us from glory.

Who would we most want to see in the Bracketbuster game at Iona later this year? If they are having another good year, I would like to see one of the 'brand name' Mid Majors........like VCU, Gonzaga, or Butler.

I think it was on todays telecast that someone mentioned that the BracketBusters is just a way for mid majors to lose out on a bid. The suggestion was made that mid majors should play mid pack big schools. But you know they'd never go for that, they have nothing to gain and everything to lose.
So, for me, bring on the best.
Go Gaels!!!

Z, it was Gottlieb who said that and it got me to stand up and applaud because I've been posting this exact same sentiment about the bracketbuster for years.
