Iona is going to have its hands full with St. Joes on Wednesday night. St. Joes is 3-1 with wins over Western Kentucky, Georgia Tech and Tulsa – their only loss was to Seton Hall, 78-70.
They have two guards in Carl Jones and Langston Galloway that appear to be very good players, in fact Jones is averaging 23.5ppg, and we all know they are an excellent coached team.
The Gaels will need to bring their A game for 40 minutes to get a win here against a very good team.
As mentioned in another thread, a hangover from the success in Puerto Rico is possible, or even likely – hopefully it is only a slight one.

Gonna be a tough one. I think the guys will be up for this, being a home "opener." Hope its a good crowd. Night before Thanksgiving might be tough.

An article on the game in the JN would help, but I'm not holding my breath.

How big the crowd is will be very interesting.
I think students who are still around will think of this as a night out at the bars and not go to the game even though they could do both.
St. Joes will bring lots of local alumni but may not be great day to travel from Philly. Even Iona fans coming from more than 25 miles may not want to make the trip with the usual pre Thanksgiving day traffic. My guess about 2,000 with 500 St. Joes fans, we won't get the same atmosphere as last years Richmond game, but I hope I am wrong.

Ken Pomeroy rates St . Joes about equal to Fairfield. This will be an interesting test of the Gaels. So far we have not handled prosperity as well as we should and let teams cut into our leads too much.

No way in hell will there be 500 St Joes fans there the day before Thanksgiving.

I don't think St. Joe's will bring 500 fans, but I do think the crowd will be good. I often ask different friends of mine to the games, I've heard from everyone so far this year, they're big hoops fans and they hot on Iona this year, especially since there's no NBA. Come January if the Gaels are going strong I think a ticket at the Hynes will be a sought after commodity!

Maybe 500 is a high guess but I don't think most of these fans are traveling, I think these are area alumni or kids home already for break that will come. St. Joe's always has a good showing at away games.

Heading up to see you tomorrow with some friends from Pa. Where should we eat? I view the Gaels as our toughest challenge yet, which is saying a lot considering we have played ACC and big east teams. Saw you destroy Maryland. Very impressed by your pg and pf. After this game, we finally play our 1st home game. After this we have 7 of our next 8 at home. When you watch our team, just remember we have no seniors, 1 junior, 5 sophomores and 3 freshmen - incredibly young. Look forward to hosting you in Philly next year. Look forward to hearing your dining suggestions (if traffic cooperates!)
