Congratulations to the Gaels on a dominant win! Good contributions by everyone, and it sounds like Momo is heating up, which can only make this team more dangerous. Just wait until Ridley is 100% healthwise. The team defense has greatly improved over the past two games as well. Really nice to get the rare Buffalo sweep!

Gaels put together a complete game on both ends of the court today. Very impressive win.
Go Gaels!!!

The best Iona team since the 97-98 team with John McDonald and Kashif Hameed. Awesome weekend!

Some interesting comments in Iona Chat room during the NU game. Understandably, some of our fans were calling for the bench early in the second half with Iona pounding the tar out of the purps. This has to be a conundrum for Coach. On the one hand, you want your team to maintain intensity for 40 minutes - to not back off. On the other hand, you have the fans, although you can't hear them, yelling to back off and clear the bench. The third leg of this puzzle is that you have a deep bench, and one of the ways to insure 40 minutes of intensity is get them on the floor and gain game time experience for when ?? Of course, there is a fourth piece. What do these players do get on the floor? Do they play D? Can they maintain the intensity? Do they piss off the very same fans when the lead gets whittled to, say, single digits? This is certainly a dilemma that I have never before seen at Iona - such a deep team that can build big leads, and have the virtual fans "screaming" for the bench. Good luck with this one, Coach!

First off, TREMENDOUS performance by the team Sunday.
Second, no question we're at a nit-picking stage here when the biggest gripe we have is why we didn't use the bench more.
I get not rushing to unload the bench with 10 minutes to go. But Iona was up 40 with 5 minutes to play, and Glover was still out there. I'm sorry, but I bet me, Joebird, St Louis Gael, Oldtimer and ICHoops could play the last 5 minutes and we wouldn't blow a 40-point lead. Of course, I'd have to handle the press myself. ;-)
Hey, I get that Gomez and Trinity and to a lesser extent Diggs won't see a ton of minutes this year, but geez, Armand? And rumor has it Armand had logged some doghouse time because of a couple missed defensive assignments vs Canisius. Um, the Griffs shot 59% in the first half--I'll be Armand's not the only one who missed assignments.
If anything, on days where the regular gunners--Smyth, Momo, Jenkins--aren't hitting 3s, Armand HAS to log some minutes there, even if he is not as good defensively. And this is not just for this year, but for the future of the program. Armand is a great kid who seems to take everything in stride, but we don't want a situation where he starts to become unhappy and looks to leave after this season, as he figures to step into the starting lineup next year next to Smyth and Momo.

I was thinking the same thing re: Armand’s PT. I really hope he is patient (and getting good advice) cause as you state, his time will come. The addition of Momo hurt his PT more than anyone else on the team. That said, I’m thrilled Momo is here as his leadership, and play, were key in Friday’s win against Canisius. With the bottom half of the league very weak, I have a feeling there will be a lot more blow-outs this year…..

Re Armand, more than anyone else he would be our Mr. Instant Offense and I wonder how a high school scoring machine feels sitting during a lopsided situation like that. Yes, coach knows best but fans constitutionally can't help hand wringing. Maybe there are counselors? :-]

OK, here's my 3 cents. I understand how you feel Guy, but I defer to the coach knowing what he's doing in situations like this. I never think that having 5 backups in at the same time (Except maybe the last couple of minutes) serves any good purpose. For the development of the team I think you mix 2-3 starters with2-3 backups. This will more realistically be needed in a close game or overtime situation. Realistically 5 subs would never be out on the court in a tight game, so you really don't gain anything by doing that. I love seeing the new guys also, but I think the coach knows what he is doing. Anyway, as I said yesterday - what else are we going to talk about in a 40 point blow-out? ;D
