Swimmer Jamie Manser posted Iona’s first NCAA Division I qualifying time ever at the H2ounds Invitational at Loyola on Saturday. Manser, a Gaels’ senior, won the 100 breaststroke with a pool, school and MAAC record of 1:02.13, beating her own mark by 1.2 seconds. Manser qualified under the NCAA B standard, and broke the previous pool record set by three-time Olympic medalist Katie Hoff in 1993.
“I never doubted Jamie,” Iona coach Nick Cavataro said in a statement. “She is extraordinarily determined. Jamie has three goals in mind: win MAACs, make NCAAs and qualify for the June Olympic Trials. This was a big step to all three.”
