We've all seen the Gaels near the top of several offensive categories. I thought leading the nation in assists was the best, but my new favorite is our ranking as the 35th best free throw shooting team in the country @ 74%. Thanks Kyle, Momo & Randy!

Thanks Kyle, Momo & Randy! +1, music to my ears I've been complaining about Iona's Ft's for years. Bottom line is; really good teams make their Ft's.

How's that for timing? 15-16 free throws in the Vermont game yesterday!

My favorite stats are Pomeroy's efficiency ratings. Iona's offense today is 14th nationally, which comes as no surprise. The much-maligned defense? 122nd--which really isn't that bad, and FAR better than many would think. That 122 is 2nd in the MAAC to Manhattan, which comes in at 73.

One more defensive stat--Iona is 2nd in the MAAC in points allowed per possession (which ties in with the efficiency stat).

I believe that the Manhattan game is only the second game in the last two seasons that we have lost when we have more than 20 assists. The other loss is Syracuse last season.
We had 23 assists in the Manhattan game, with 16 from Scott. However, we only had seven assists in the second half.
Conversely, we only had 14 assists against Loyola, but we won. However, we had nine of those assists in the second half.
Where am I going with all of this.
I have been touting 20 plus assists per game as a key bench mark for this team's success for two years now - as has the coaching staff. To me, that benchmark is an indicator of our teams intensity as measured by our willingness to share the ball. It also tells us we need Scott on the floor to get to the 20. Further, we are in deep s**t next season. That is for another day.
For this team, when people in addition to Scott share the ball, we are very difficult to beat. Now if we can match our 20 assists pg with the defensive intensity we saw against Loyola in the second half, we can be special.
Who gives us assists?
Scott, MoMo, JJ, Kyle, Sean, Randy, Taaj.
Who gives us defensive intensity?
Kyle, Scott, JJ, Randy, Mike, Trinity, etc.
I think there may be a message here going down the stretch, do you think??

Gaels in a mini-slump with FTs. Now out of top 50.
Scott (who has been shaky at times in the past) now leads the team @ 81.8%. his overall shooting has really improved: 3 pt fg% is now 40%; overall fg% is 47%. He also is 2nd on the team in rpg @ a ridiculous 4.9.
