I'm new to this forum...however not new to Iona Basketball.
I apologize if this was already addressed in a previous thread (I am not browsing 48 pages) but what's the deal with our pep band? I've been watching Iona basketball since I stepped on campus as a student in 2000 and never understood why there isn't a STUDENT pep band. Who are these old guys and why hasn't the set list changed in over a decade?

They are the tightest band in the MAAC. The Stones are old and they still sell out. Where else can you see Killian doing running man and the sprinkler while listening to Steely Dan or Zep.
I think the reason for not having a student band is because the college does not have a music department. Adults are also more dependable.

A lot of things should be upgraded at Iona. Gym, food court, stat board, bath rooms, and many more, but the Pep Band? No way, they add so much to the atmosphere and are a pleasure to hear every game.

I agree the Pep Band is excellent, as is. Yesterday I was watching the game on MAAC TV and the graphics weren't updated to show 2nd half until about 10 mins to go in the game. There is also nowhere to buy a ticket to the game until an hour before, which forces you to leave the Beechmont earlier than you would like, on a day that may be a sellout.

I give these guys all the credit in the world. They never miss a home game and they are tops with me. No change needed.

I like the pep band just the way it is. And they didn't play Black Eyed Peas in 2000 so the set list does change!

Agree with most of the sentiments... that band is one of the finer amenities at Hynes.
Many a times I wished the refs would hold off restarting the game so those guys could play a little longer.

Playing "Don't Stop Believin''" when Iona is up by 10+ with :30 seconds to go in the game tells me they're not in touch with what's happening on the court. There isn't good coordination between the Pep Band and whoever is operating the music on the loudspeakers. It seems like both are competing against one another. Very amateurish at times.
The best explanation I heard as to why the ensemble is what it is today is because there is no music program at Iona. Understandable.
I don't know. Maybe I'm not old school enough to find them charming.

I'd prefer we had a student band also, but it is what it is.

Unfortunately one time they were on break.
Does Iona still bring out the pipers at some home games?

The only hint of bag pipe was several years ago there was a riff of pipes at the very begining of the music they would play for the starting lineup introductions. There was even green light over the bench when the house lights would go down.

Pipe band played before the CIT championship game last year vs Santa Clara.
