I think if this team wants to take a step to the next level and be an elite mid major we need to see them win out or at least win 7 more in a row before one slip up (possibly Loyola).
This team has not shown the consistent ability to win games which you see from an elite mid major. They are closer to reminding me of the 01 or 06 Gaels (good but not elite mid major) then the 85 or 98 Gaels (elite).
Unless I see that I think this team's regular season has been disappointing and Gaels would be no better than 50/50 to win the Maac tourney.
I was hoping for an elite year with an NCAA win, any year with a trip to the NCAA's is special and no matter what they do in the regular season an NCAA win would make this extra special but I was hoping to be greedy and get the one of a kind year we saw in 80 which was dominate plus an NCAA win. You don't get teams at this level too often that have 3 maybe even 4 potential pros, so the Gaels need to take advantage of this one of a kind opportunity.
Although not highly likely I do think there still is a chance for an elite regular season but Gaels need to be dominant the rest of the way. A dominate finish I feel would give the Gaels the confidence they need to win a Maac tourney championship and then put themselves in position for that long awaited NCAA win.

To me the team needs the mental toughness to make success happen. They are good but have to realize that they have to play hard every half of every game. Not sure they realize that, yet. TC's job, imo, is to make that happen.

We played better D last year. Obviosly not having Alejo is a big loss inside. I don't think you can use the word "Elite" with the current level of play.

I'll also note that the losses to Hofstra and Manhattan were losses to local rivals with players who know our players pretty well and who were focused and amped up to beat us, while we were primping and preening in front of friends and family.

Don't good teams overcome that with their superior players?

Great teams overcome lapses with superior talent. Good teams sometimes lose those games. Syracuse can have a bad game and still beat Villanova, Gaels don't have that level of talent. Look Butler and VCU lost their share of horrible games last year, damn the Giants lost to the Redskins TWICE this year. Don't worry about the bad losses it's what happens in March fellas. I think TC has a pretty good track record late season/post season.

How do we beat Rider Friday night? Other than our well wishes for Mr. Doom and OT and a win by our women against St. Peters, I don't think anything else matters in our BB world this week.

I guess some of you expected Iona to be 18-0?
