The following represents the opinioin of SLG, and in no way represents the opinion of this Board or anyone etc., etc. etc.
OK! Are we seeing a big in season adjustment by the coaching staff?
As I listen to and watch last night's interviews, I am wondering. "We need to get back to our up tempo pace, we need to run ..."
What does that have to do with Defense? At the extremes, there are two ways to play D. Clutch, grab, and stand around ala the early KW team. Or, run their butts into the ground, so that in the fourth quarter they are dead. Short-arming shots, can't hit FT's etc.
Iona has five athletic guards; we have a bunch of people up front who love to run, and be on the receiving end of gifts from those guards. When we ran against Purdue, we opened up a significant lead. They slowed down the pace to get back in the game. When we sped them up in the second half, we got back in the game. And so the season goes.
We are a very, very, very tough out for anyone, when we get 20 assists or more. Scott, last night: "We can not let their defense slow us down." Coach C: "Our assists are going down, we have to get them back up."
SLG's read. Let's play D off our offense. Very interesting!

That's one way to look at it SLG, kind of like playing good D against the Packers by controlling the ball and keeping Aaron Rodgers on the bench. The problem with that approach, imo, is when you are having an off night, not in synch on offense, you have no safety net. You simply cannot stop the other team. Got to have some balance, imo. We don't have to be a great D team. Perhaps a VG situational defensive team.
