ICHoops, I know you were trying to be funny (and I stress "trying"), but you're actually right.
When you come into a season with the accolades this team has received, the pressure becomes great--even for the fans. You read the clippings, you make your own analysis, and you dream. When things don't turn out as well as you'd hoped, it's NATURAL to get a little negative. I think we were all expecting something "special" this year, and though we've had a very strong season, at THIS point it hasn't been special. That said--if we win the MAAC and win an NCAA game, none of us will give a crap that we trailed Marist at home by 5 with like 13 minutes to go or whatever.
Next year, though, the MAAC is going to be pretty darn strong. Loyola returns a ton of guys, Manhattan is a very young team, Siena should be better, Niagara should be better. None of us are going to go in with high expectations, even with the trio of Momo/Smyth/Armand all returning. And, when your expectations aren't great, you tend to enjoy the ride more rather than stress out every game.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.

You obviously don't know me. If we have 8 division 3 transfers and Peter Dinklage playing with us next year I will still stress out every game.

Good post. The MAAC will be really interesting next season. Loyola I'd guess will be picked first and then Manhattan.
Siena, Iona, Fairfield and Niagara are the next group - what order who knows. Siena needs the small backcourt (Hymes-Brookins) to adjust and how good Silas/Gomis will be.
Rider won't be terrible but lose some good players. SPC a little better. Even Marist and Canisius won't be awful especially with new coaches (Marist might stick with Martin though)
But still a lot of basketball to be played in 2011-2012..good luck the rest of the way until we meet (if we do) in Springfield

Think Iona and Niagara will also be in the top four. Not too sure about Siena. I guess if the newcomers next year are good they could be in the 5th to 7th place range, but too soon to be thinking of that. Need to worry about the rest of this year.
I REALLY miss the coaches coming to the GC receptions and giving GC members some insight about the team. Good times and bad times that was a given.
I have to agree! As much as I like TC and the rest of the staff, I do miss our previous staffs who came to almost all Goal Club receptions. It was one of the things that separated Iona from other colleges.
Every so often, buddies from other colleges will ask me what makes the GC special and I'll zero in on the coach's presence.
As far as I'm concerned, we don't need to have post or pre game receptions if the coaches don't show. I can celebrate a victory or dissect a loss at many places around New Rochelle with much better food and drink.
But it's the reception that give alums a rallying point for the Goal Club. I'm concerned that GC membership will dwindle if the coaches continue to disrespect their biggest supporters.
I must give kudos to Jay Judge for having former Gael greats speak at the receptions. It's a great idea and a lot of fun. But it doesn't fully make up for the absence TC or his coaches.

Also agree.
First the crazy (lack of home games) schedule, then the change to 7pm tipoffs (which make things tough for those who have a commute to work), now the staff not showing up at the GC receptions.
They may not knowingly be doing it, but these kinds of things can create a distance from their most loyal fan base.
