If I figured this out right, at the moment Loyola owns the tiebreaker over us. If we are tied at the end of the year it looks like it will come down to whomever finishes better between Niagara or Siena. If Niagara ends up ahead we win the tiebreaker, if Siena finished ahead of Niagara or ends up tied, Loyola wins the tiebreaker. Still lots of possibilities but as of the moment we still need to gain a game on loyola. loyola is at Manhattan the last day of the regular season.
In addition if we end up tied with Manhattan I think they win the tiebreaker and if we end up tied with Fairfield it may come down to a coin flip.

JoeBird, all I know about the tiebreaker is that we have to beat Rider Wednesday night. ;D

Too many possibilities yet. But if we win out and Fairfield finishes ahead of Manhattan--VERY possible--we're first.

If the season ended today though, it would be Loyola in first as a result of Fairfield w/ one less win than Manhattan (m/u game w/ Marist still left). Because the current top five teams all still have games left with each other, there are too many what-ifs to even begin to try and sort it out.

I do want to make it clear that there's a distinct advantage of being seeded first, though.
1. 8/9 winner lately has been much weaker than 7 (or 10).
2. If I had to guess, Loyola and Fairfield would finish in some order 2nd and 3rd, and you don't want to have to beat both teams to win the MAAC--let them have an all-out war in the semis. Not to suggest that a game vs Manhattan or even Rider is a walk in the park, but let's face it, those teams simply aren't as good as Loyola or Fairfield.
3. The 1 seed plays Saturday afternoon, and gets pretty much the 24 hours to rest. The 2 seed plays at 7:30 and the 3 won't tip until 10.
4. The 1 seed gets the automatic NIT bid, if the worst should happen.

I actually think this is the biggest reason. St Peters at #4 had a longer rest then anyone last year and I think it helped them. When was the last time a 3 seed won, that 10:00 game is brutal.

I would like to see standard tie breaker rules throughtout Div. 1 basketball. They should be simplified. I also would like a rule that any team that has less then a 500 per cent winning percentage able to play in their season ending tourney, but ineligibe for the NCAA Tournament. That has occured a few times in recent years. It is entirely possible season ending ties in the MAAC will test the limits of the hard to follow ascending rule section and bring about needed changes........I have in frustration given up and will wait until somebody else figures it out. GOOD LUCK SID.......
