Iona has recruited Max Bruckner, a pitcher for Harrison HS. He was named, today, as the Journal News Westchester/Putnam POY. At least the article appeared in today's paper. Congrats to Coach Carey.

IC59......Also congradulate him on the fine record he has compiled since taking over the program..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.... Why anyone with promise would want to come here is beyond me....I doubt that 90 percent of the students even know that Iona has a baseball program.... I have been to games where I was among only a handful of spectators. They are however improving, they win once in a great while now.

OT, couple of things: 1. You are right on about the team's recent performance, and attendance at games. In fact I'm sure that many posters on this board would be hard pressed to find JB Buono field. 2. We were pretty good when Al Zoccolillo was coach, but the team was in bad academic shape. However, I believe they are now okay in the classroom. And on the field they are improved, though not yet in the top half of the MAAC, or at least I don't think they are. Remember Chris Burke, who was drafted by the Padres, was the MAAC POY. So there are indications of improvement. 3. The college, though I'm not sure of this but do believe, has put more money/scholarships into baseball. I forget how many scholarships you're allowed to have, but was surprised by the number, considering that you have about 30 kids on the team. 4. Also heard a rumor that we are attempting to buy/lease/build a field near City Park, which makes it much more fan/student friendly. And if this happens I would expect attendance to improve. 5. Landing Max Bruckner bodes well for the future. JMO.

People forget that the baseball team lost scholarships back in 2003 when the hockey team and tennis teams were purged. I believe they lost four full scholarships.
