Is Blount getting a scholly or is he a walk on? A LOI must be accompanied by an athletic award letter which lists the terms and conditions of the award. If he is signing a LOI he will be on scholarship. Walk ons do not sign LOI's. Understood, just wondering if this was "mis-reported" somehow, or maybe if a current scholarship player will pay his own way next year. Of course all of this could be cleared up with some information.

Understood, just wondering if this was "mis-reported" somehow, or maybe if a correct scholarship player will pay his own way next year. I wondered if the LOI info could have been a misunderstanding between the Euro news source... it could be... but I doubt it as the people from Canarias definitely know the process.

if players from Iona are leaving to play at other schools shouldn't we hear about them signing soon? If not are we forcing them out, did that happen to sledge? what is the date the roster becomes official?

if players from Iona are leaving to play at other schools shouldn't we hear about them signing soon? If not are we forcing them out, did that happen to sledge? what is the date the roster becomes official? Rosters are fluid as players come and go during the season as well as during the offseason but according to NCAA Bylaw 15.3.5.1, a school must notify a student athlete in writing, who was on scholarship or granted aid the previous season, that the school is not extending their scholarship on or before July 1st. There are many reasons for players not to be renewed. Poor grades, poor attitudes, poor habits, injuries where the player did not commit properly to rehabilitation. Players also leave for more playing time, to be closer to home, to play at a higher level, want to turn pro etc... As for announcing when a player is leaving due to a negative trait or poor performance, most schools will only state that the player is leaving and not state the reason. In some cases, some schools do recruit over a player. I do not see that as being the case this year at Iona. I think the people that are leaving are going no matter who signs on to play for us. It is my understanding that Sledge, though in the doghouse a bit, waited to the last minute to inform the staff that he was leaving. He was not run off. It was rumored that he was heading to Manhattanville but that apparently changed to Albertus Magnus where he averaged 20 ppg and 5.1 assists. At the time he was deciding on staying or going, to be fair, his girlfriend had just had a baby and I think that was where his head was and rightfully so. I do not think players are sitting around waiting for the staff to drag them off to the gallows. I am sure that the players leaving have already been informed and are hustling to find a landing spot.

Marvin Prochet has committed to Niagara. I asked about Prochet a few times in this thread. I saw him play a couple of times this past season at Long Island Lutheran, and though you could see he was still not 100% from his injury, he showed signs of the player that had nice offers/interest from some very good programs. Was hoping Iona could recruit him and redshirt for a year to get fully healthy, but obviously there weren't any scholarships available. Niagara might have gotten a steal in Prochet in a couple of years, surprised other MAAC schools didn't recruit him. Speaking of Niagara I saw a report that they might now lose their best player Dom Reid because of legal issues. Might be the worst team in D-1 next season.

86, I don't think we are running kids off, I think it is funny however that with all the known transfers in college basketball the guys leaving our school have been silent. We can't control other schools from announcing signings so why no info on players coming or going, to me its very strange

You would think the kids would release the info.

Running off kids is an ill advised term.....Over the years some been told that their playing ability did not meet the quality expected of them...This is not being ''Run Off''...It is the duty of the head coach and if he shuns this unpleasant task, will not last long...Many fans fall in 'Love' with a player and for sentimental reason call it being 'Run Off' Coaches do not have this option...... Being ''Released'' is a more appropriate term that seems accepted throughout the sport world...It will erase the stigma that the expression 'Run Off' leaves...
