Tre is part of the Iona Family now. Can we please all welcome him with open arms. With all the expansion and contraction of the family, peoples arms are getting tired

For those killing Tre Bowman, a source tells me he was scheduled to visit Texas Tech today (obviously that was cancelled).

I just don't get offering Bowman a scholarship. Cantino was talented (more so than Bowman, and bigger), but I think we dodged a bullet behaviorally when Cantino took off. So we go and offer Bowman, who had problems at two different schools and appears to be filler material at best? Makes no sense to me. I hope Cluess knows what he's doing but this recruiting season has had an entirely manic, frenetic quality to it. Seems like pure chaos at times to me and not at all as effective as it should be (kind of like our defense most of last season). We swung for the fences on a few long shots and lost, lost a potentially decent 6'8" player (Rhoomes) to a school that has no business winning a recruit from us, and offered two players that are definite head cases. Yes, we're adding some solid guys (especially Dennis), a raw talent (Sledge) a major talent (Laury) and two freshman that have high potential, but the recruiting this year has a "fill in the blanks" quality that I find unsettling.
Really, its hard enough to keep solid college students in line conduct wise, why offer two guys that are known problems?

ic1983, we have no evidence that Cantino is more talented than Bowman. The position difference, I agree with. But the staff thinks Bowman is more athletic than Cantino, and with Texas Tech looking, it's apparent we weren't the only ones who thought he could contribute at a high level.

Guy, I don't know that I'd agree there is a reason to conclude that the staff thinks Bowman is more talented than Cantino. It's just as likely that the staff decided to offer Bowman when Cantino flew the coop, because he was available. The write ups on Bowman that I found (which admittedly were pretty sparse) didn't seem to indicate a high level talent.
Time will tell. I hope Cluess has this under control, and I'd love to be proven wrong on Bowman.

That said, I am in full agreement with you that we weren't going to take Bowman had Cantino stayed--mainly because of Pelle, of course.

Per ESPN:
Iona adds former Big Ten guard
Iona's backcourt got a boost on Monday.
Steve Heiser of YorkDispatch.com reports this morning that the Gaels received a verbal commitment Monday from JUCO guard Tre Bowman, who played at Penn State during the 2010-11 season.
The 6-foot, 4-inch junior played last season at Midland College and was released from his letter of intent to Texas Southern after coach Tony Harvey suddenly resigned in early July. The junior will be eligible to play this season, and is expected to sign his letter of intent in the coming days, per Heiser.
Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com tweets: "Bowman will give Iona the go ahead to play frequent 4G sets. Will be on the floor regularly w Momo Jones, Sean Armand, + Curtis Dennis."
