Have a feeling Iona is happy with Jackson and no matter how good Pelle is they don't want to bring in someone on December 20th, who would have no practice with the team, and only be on the team for 3 months. They probably want a commitment for next season and can't get one, or they think he may not ever get eligibility and want to move on.

If he is planning on coming mid season and then jumping to the pros via a lottery pick he is getting shitty advice from some very dumb people.
He needs to get his ass to New Rochelle, and plan on being here through next season. It is the only way he will improve his game and get the attention of the scouts. He is going to be playing against men and not kids any longer and it will be an adjustment for him. A half a season will not be enough for him to develop. In fact his presence could be detrimental to the team if he is coming here for three months to just put up numbers for himself.
If this is what he was planning he should have just enrolled in the local JUCO and dropped 35 ppg and 20 rpg and hoped that was enough to catch the NBA's attention. Lots of McDonald's All Americans never make it to the NBA at all so banking on getting there is pretty stupid. He has to prove he can be dominant consistently at the next level and that will take work and time.
I hope he is willing to come here and stay at least for a full season for his own good. I would hate to read stories about him five years from now telling the story of what could have been.

Agreed I86...but I also have an issue with the NCAA and the way they handle the clearing of players. Am I biased because I wanted to see Pelle at Iona at the start of the semester ? yes. But for the NCAA to hold a program and a student/athlete hostage this long for their decision is crazy. Pelle is not the only kid who did not enroll at their college of choice because they did not get an answer from the NCAA in time. there is no excuse for this. I have seen articles that the clearinghouse has thousands of kids to clear with a limited staff. Really ?? Again no excuse...with the money the NCAA has staffing should never be an issue. OK, I am done venting. looking forward to the upcoming season and another exciting season however the Pelle situation turns out

The NCAA claims to be protecting amateurism in college sports when they are really a profit making monopoly. By their own admission they spend less on the Eligibility Center than they do building operations and salaries not related to NCAA programs. They are a joke. I am sure if Iona had a major sponsorship from Nike he would have jumped to the top of their list for review.

There is no valid reason for holding up a decision this long unless the kid (and the school) knows what is going on.

First of all, I haven't seen or heard Pelle saying he didn't need to go up against D1 competition to make it to the NBA. And getting "his ass" to Iona? Well maybe his family just doesn't have the funds to do so. Let's cut him so slack. I don't know who is advising him so I can't intelligently comment on that subject. I'd love him to be able to play for Iona. But life will still go on for us and for him if he doesn't. No matter what, I pray he will realize his NBA dreams.

I'd love him to be able to play for Iona. But life will still go on for us and for him if he doesn't. No matter what, I pray he will realize his NBA dreams. His coach said one of the reasons he wanted to play at Iona is the staff did not mind that he might leave in a year. That is all fine and well but I do not see that happening with a half a season under his belt. If this kid comes to Iona for a full year or two, adds some muscle and works on his game he can realize his dream of being a lottery pick. I think some time with Cluess will do him good and help prepare him for his future. I just hope his desire to provide for his family and the whispers from advisors do not tilt his head in the wrong direction... Iona will survive either way. I am not saying to get his ass here now as his family might not be able to afford it. If he is cleared I think getting his ass here with the attitude that he will be here for at least a year and a half to work on his game and to mature is solid advice. I find it highly unrealistic that he can come here and dominate the MAAC playing team ball and jump to the NBA in three months. Joebird questioned the staffs desire to lock him up thru next year.... I think that is a logical thought process as I believe it is best for both parties.

NBA scouts will be the ones who judge his merit.
He can play half a season then declare for the draft.
If he gets lots of interest, god bless him.
If he gets little interest, he'll have a window to recant his declaration and decide to play another year of D1 to raise his stock.
I don't think it's that complicated.

It is a bit more complicated... It was pretty clear that the staff understood that Pelle might be here for only a year. A three month Pelle might not be mutually agreed to. If Joebird is right and the staff is now looking for a greater commitment from pelle than just three months... will you support the staff if they walk away from a three month Pelle?

Does anyone know for sure if the NCAA clearinghouse did not make a ruling on Pelle's eligibility yet. It's possible that they did and Pelle wants to keep it quiet to save himself from the embarrassment of being declared ineligible two years in a row.

I think if that happened you would have seen him enter JUCO or sign to play in Europe for the year.

Can we be sure that no ruling on Pelle was ever made?
