Sledge and Young gone per random tweet today. So if this is true AJ English and Schadrac Casimir are the guards to start the season? Or does Cluess go with Amayo and English or even Muhammed? Cluess is known to play the best 5 on the court no matter the size. With the season fast approaching and not all the players are on campus does the staff have any clear front runners yet? In Cluess I Trust Neither Sledge nor Young were going to be key rotation guys. The new juco won't be either.

I agree with GuyF that we want the Grambling kid. He is already D-1 tested and gone through the issues with being a transfer. The returning core of Iona players will need to work hard to make these incoming players feel welcome and incorporate them into the program. I have confidence they will do so as many came in as transfers also. This year has been crazy fluid.

Sledge was a year from getting his degree in criminal justice. If there is truly a family issue beyond his child being born, I would hope that the staff exhausted every chance of getting him back so he could get his degree finished. He would have to sit a year at any NCAA school that could grant a scholarship and there are no NAIA schools close to his family. I could care less if he ever played another minute of hoops... I would just like to see him finish his studies so that he could get the start in life that will benefit his child. A non graduate player, leaving right before his senior year, is really unacceptable IMHO.

Do we really want another small guard? I'm thinking more of a big two or a wing. We want the kid from Grambling. I knew who you meant.

Ibn Muhammad played AAU with AJ English for Team Takeover.

Just saw the Mike Aaman got his release from Rhode Island. Sounds like he had issues with concussions at URI but reports have sais he has played well this summer. Pretty sure he was recruited by Iona. Any interest if things don't work out with the kid from Grambling?

Thank You Guy I looked up the stats from the Grambling State kid (Antwan Scott) he averaged 3.7 assists with 3.6 TO and 15.7 points and 4.5 Rebounds per game so season total was 92 assists 91 Turnovers with 112 Rebounds. was originally recruited by Texas Tech SMU and TCU he was Grambling State's leading scorer. He would be a great get for the staff. I am looking forward to the release of the 2014/15 roster and official schedule. Should be another great season to be a Gaels fan

As the days grow short, and unless there is a surprise or two, IMO this has been so far the most confused and unsuccessful recruiting year we have had in 4 years...I had given the previous recent years well deserved grades ranging from B+ to A but unless they are given a upgrade and boost IMO the grading should drop to a low of C-... Not seeing a logical reason for this recruiting malaise especially with the moderate need of an excellent returning base, I still have faith that we are not ready to push the ''Send'' key as yet.....

OT, I believe one of the problems in trying to lure recruits, is the obvious amount of talent that we have returning, and the obvious lack of PT that will be available. Kids want to play, not sit. That said, we look to be strong this year and next, but do NEED to replace DL. AJ, and IW in the next two years. And to be honest how many of us saw how good AJ would become, when he entered the school. The jury is out on Casimir, Beebis, Hines and Robinson, and one or more of these guys could become another AJ. By that I mean, someone much better than advertised. I, once again, go back to the Mayflower Donut Shop and its slogan, "Keep your eye upon the donut and not upon the hole".

Agree. Silly to question the quality of the newcomers when they haven't set foot on the court yet.
That said, odds are half the players won't work out.

even though we have great success over the last 5 years, we still haven't had a true uptake in recruiting, not complaining about the players we have, that's not my point. My point is it will be a long time before we have a better facility even if it is approved soon it will take time. We should play all our MAAC home games at Heinze and play 3 OC games as parts of double headers, 1 at MSG, at Barclays and 1 at the Meadowlands or the Rock. We would get 3 quality opponents and touch different areas so High School kids see the brand of basketball that we play which I think would help a lot, remember Armand didn't even know we existed.

Good post, but take exception with the comment about us not seeing an uptick in recruiting. Agreed that this year in particular seems like a down year, but over the course of the past four years, we're consistently recruiting high level players that we didn't sniff in the previous four year period. I think on a whole we are seeing a recruiting uptick although this year would definitely agree that it seems to have dipped a bit.
