seton hall in a last gasp effort to get isiah whitehead to commit (announcing today at 2:30) has rumored to have offered tiny Morton (whiteheads well known high school coach) a job? st. johns had this kid wrapped up yesterday? is that legal?

Whitehead is tight with Isaiah Briscoe and they have talked about playing together in college. Both were offered by Seton Hall.
This does smell fishy though.... especially after Willard hired Oliver Antigua after landing Angel Delgado.

Tiny Morton gets a job offer the day of the announcement? what is your feeling on that 86? It does not look good especially after they hired Oliver Antigua after landing Angel Delgado. I think Willard is desperate to win at this point. I am glad that SJU turned Morton down when he pushed to join the staff after Mike Dunlap left. Willard better be careful as Morton is a big personality.

maybe i'm misinformed...but I thought that a player has to sit a year if the high school coach is hired...isn't that why momo didn't go to st. johns (he wanted to) but rico hines (his high school coach) was on sju staff....so rather then sit a year --he came to iona...ncaa rule?

I do not think it involves coaches. It involves other staff so that way a H.S. coach does not get hired as a no show hot dog vendor at a school. MoMo's former coach was in the Athletic department but was not a coach.

The latest rumor has Morton in at SHU and that will prevent them from hiring Oliver Antigua. This is really looking bad for SHU.

When I saw the title of this thread I was expecting something Gonzo related.

Will Whitehead qualify? Saw on Zags blog that he had not taken the SAT's yet. The standards to qualify now are making it tougher on these players. In my opinion we will see more players forced the Juco route and then transfer in. Cluess understood this and thus the number of transfers the past 3 years.

Seton Hall and Coach Willard are starting to get the kind of attention they were not expecting with Whitehead's announcement. Refer to www.college-basketball.si.com/2013/09/20/seton-hall-kevin-willard-isaiah-whitehead-ncaa-silliness/?sct=uk_t11_a0 . The State of New Jersey must be wondering WTF with Seton Hall now following Rutgers in an apparent poor judgement. This situation shines another light on the darkside of scholastic basketball. These poor players being manipulated by parents, coaches, handlers and advisers telling them what to do, but not always with their best interest at heart. I wish more former players would speak out against this behaviour using their own experiences. Iona's David Laury is an example of bad advice/direction, fortunately he landed here to get back on track.
