I'm hearing that Tiny has made a lot of enemies in high school circles in the New York area lately. If this is true, then you don't need him on your staff. St. John's had a chance to hire him over the summer, but declined. But Willard had to do it, as his job looks to be in jeopardy. His only saving grace may be that Pat Lyons is the AD there. I don't really see anything ethically wrong with it, and it's not against the rules.
Doesn't really fit for St. John's next year. They already have Pointer, Harrison, Greene, Branch, and Jordan, and that could be a problem, as there are only so many minutes to go around at the two and the three positions. What they need for next year is bigs. No sense poisoning your coaching staff for a one and doner that doesn't really fit for next year. The Lincoln kids are frequent one and doners. Ironically, though, Larry Brown actually won a national championship with this strategy when he hired Ed Manning to land his son Danny. But Danny stayed all four years. This is a diferent era.

This is a very questionable move, if true. SHU must be truly desperate.

Just read the rule. You are only allowed to offer a high school coach a coaching position on your staff if... "the employment contract is not contingent on the enrollment of the the prospective student athlete". A crazy rule because it is totally unenforceable and so they do not even try to enforce it. But everybody knows Tiny would not have been offered the job if Whitehead wasn't going to the Hall. So it IS unethical and it IS against the rules. If the NCAA's decision making process was at all logical, which it definately is not, you would not be able to use this farce to recruit players at all. It just insults everybody's intelligence to think that Tiny would have been hired a year in advance if Whitehead wasn't going to play there.

as long as lavin is at sju--there is no need to worry--he is as good of a recruiter as there is out there---the future is very bright for sju

I haven't heard anything about Lavin leaving. I think he just wants to turn the corner at St. John's. Two years ago it was rumored that his wife wanted to go back to L.A. and have Steve take the USC job. But that turned out to be false. You never hear his name mentioned for other jobs because he has yet to turn the corner at SJU. If he has two good runs in the tourney then you might be hearing his name mentioned for other jobs but that is a long way off. If the program gets to that point then it will be easier to find a replacement anyway and we will have had the two tournament runs in the meantime.

No no no. I was saying all he wants to do right now is turn the corner here. After that, who knows. It is said that he likes New York, and his wife is at least "acting" like she does also. So, who knows. (She initially wanted to come here, from L.A., to reboot her acting career on Broadway. But that didn't pan out, so the rumor was that she wanted to go back. But they have denied the rumor). If he wins big here he will surely get bigger offers. Will SJU match? Time will tell. He has been talking about long term stability and sustainability lately, so that is a good sign. One more thing on Lavin, though, if he doesn't make the tourney this year, he is done in coaching. Because if he doesn't he will lose his ability to recruit and then he will have no shot at winning.

A little rediculous? Yes, but did you see the Fox show on the BE, last night, between eight and eleven? It was all rediculous but designed to get their product (the BE) in front of the consumers. Mrs. Jay Wright might be glad that Jay is a George Clooney look-a-like, but it has nothing to do with BB. I didn't see the Seton Hall segment, but would have liked to. Did KW beat Tony B.? For the little I did hear about the BE, it seems that the Conference is wide open. Anyone see the show?

"Willard's penchant for intense scouting and preparation could be an X-Factor. A terrific tactician, Willard's ability to execute game plans and come up with new schemes could be more lethal in a round-robin type format."WOW--When did he learn that? No wins In MAAC tournament after 3 round robin MAAC seasons.
