You're right Guy. I was thinking the same thing. Even though it's not illegal it certainly is unethical. After seeing all of the above comments it seems to me that Bashir might have told someone he plans on not honoring his commitment but didn't expect it to get out there. It seems like he is in damage control mode now. I don't have a warm fuzzy that he is going to honor his verbal. I hope I'm wrong and I'm reading too much into this but...

Kansas St. Sounds alluring, but you're in a conference where Kansas is king and everyone else plays football.

Lost in this is that K State et al are displaying some pretty sleazy practices, recruiting a kid who has verballed.[/quote] The lst college basketball game was played 118 years ago...The very next day the practice of ''POACHING'' players began...

There was a time when most reputable programs honored a kids verbal and backed off out of respect for the kid having to complete his schooling - these days it's open season until the ink on the LOI is dry.

Can you imagine if a kid did not have to sit out a year due to a transfer? The bigger programs would have every street agent pitching every proven mid major star to "move up" for their junior and senior years.

tiger, I'm pretty sure that Young, forgot his first name (Nadil?) will sign. He's a 6'5 JUCO 2-3, who's described as a slasher. If Ahmed comes we'll still be after a PG and a Big. But might have only one early signing.

Tiger, the PG recruit is Dwayne Daniel. Noticed on his twitter that he was asked within the last month about Iona and according to his answers it sounds like he is still committed to Iona, saying he would play 1 year with Sledge. I guess we will see soon enough

I'll try once again...If a player verbally agrees to attend with a official staff member he has committed. If he decides not to come without a release from such commitment and decides to go elsewhere he has not DECOMITTED he has RENAGED...It is unethical but not illegal.
Unless a school is revengeful they should IMO give such release as decisions at this stage are difficult, and the pressure is great.. ..

There is no release that has to be given. A verbal is not a binding contract
