Just checked the HC box. They shot 45-56 free throws and SH was 32-38. I'm coming away with the idea that some refs are interpeting the new rules one way while others don't, or are simply ignoring the rules change.

Also, New Hampshire knocked off Duquense, with Chris Pelcher playing 32 minutes, shooting 7-13, scoring 14 points. He also grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked four shots. A great game for Chris, and I'm wondering how he and DL would have played together. Might have hurt us in the running game but helped in the half court game, as well as defensively/rebounding. Chris was a nice guy and I wish him well.

Watched a good deal of the Fordham Syracuse game, so I'll give my take. Syracuse began the game with good intensity and pretty much shut Fordham down. The Rams started something like 0-9 from 3, which I'll attribute to S's defensive energy and the dome factor. They did get a couple of open looks and clanked them. They didn't do a good job of attacking the zone, exploiting the gaps, and drawing a double team in order to kick out to an open shooter. Their bigs were not very effective. Syracuse built a 25 point halftime lead.
In the second half Syracuse brought significantly less intensity and Fordham to their credit found an outside stroke and kept competing. They were able to cut it to 12 at one point, but got no closer. Boeheim looked annoyed, but in the way that he was glad he'd have something to flog his team with in practice.
Severe for Fordham is off to a fantastic start and looks like he'll be a great scorer. Frazier for Fordham is a very good combo guard. The other guards are athletic, but all their guards are small, 6'1/6'2" and Pecora is going small so far. He's got three bigs in the rotation, all of whom have some nice attributes, but none of whom is a complete player. Canty is very athletic with high energy, but is foul prone had has a limited offensive game, Leonard is silky smooth for a guy his size, but can be neutralized by an up tempo opponent (reminds me of a smaller Bob Coleman), Rhoomes I think has the best upside of the three. They just need to rebound and play defense in Pecora's system, and stay on the floor. They've got a lot of cupcakes at home on the OOC schedule, so I expect they will have their share of wins. They would be a top tier MAAC team with this squad. It'll be interesting to see if the SJ's job opens up and Fordham has a good year, if Pecora will be in the mix. If Severe continues at his current pace, it'll also be interesting to see if he doesn't want to test the waters at a higher level. I think he had a lot of interest from Rutgers. Kid is something like 11-20 from 3 so far.
Syracuse has their usual athletic bigs, and their 3 point specialist. C.J. Fair is a 6'6" match up problem for anyone and a Pro. Their bigs didn't finish particularly well (second game), but they rebounded well, and the Rams had no answer for Fair. The S guards didn't defend very well at the top of the zone in the second half. No mystery why Boeheim always plays lesser teams at home for the first part of the schedule, while his own guys get into sync with his idiosyncratic system. Right now after seeing the Orange and a bit of Kansas-Duke, I'd say Syracuse would be in trouble against either of the latter teams. They'll need their unusual defense to gel in order to compete for a title. Kansas and Duke are just as athletic with better basketball players. Haven't seen Kentucky yet or MSU.

Yale leads Rutgers 37-34 at half. Yale is your typical Ivy. Fundamentally sound, disciplined. Their guards have some length but their bigs aren't "big." Rutgers' D in the first half made ours look like the Charles Oakley Knicks.

Nappier and Boatwright are vg for UCONN, but Detroit is terrible. Their PG, last year's Horizon POY, Ray McCarrun, Jr., left school early for the pro's and that hurt them big time. And his father is the HC, who must have known that they'd be bad even with Ray, Jr.

Columbia leads by 4 at the half. If Columbia wins, does that make Fordham the new #1 team in the country?
