ctbill, they beat hartford, furman, eckard and ave marie. lost to nebraska ncst and fiu i would hope you consider our team better than the first group and we are probably better than the second group. also they have an rpi of 199 that will only get worse when they start conference play

Probably somewhere between a nice road win and stunning. Probably half way in between.
Sincerely,

The way we played was stunning. Agree that the win was a good win. Don't care how its done but the "W" is in our column. Think we need continue to get better and share the ball some more. We have spurts of greatness and spurts when we are just mediocre. We have two athletic wings that are stuck in the corners and seldom allowed to crash the boards and are stuck on knocking down the 3 ball and sometimes they don't get touches and are out of rhythm by the time they do touch it. AJ at point has been very benficial for us but he to sometimes could make better decisions and tries to force instead of assisting a much easier shot. It is not an easy task for a scorer to convert his ways to assiting. A scoring mentality is usually an overwhelming trait to overcome. Laury is a beast in the post but it becomes the black hole because the ball enters but never ever comes back out. Doesn't have to happen all the time but with the spot up shooters passing and then relocating to another spot in case of a double team or just the fact the DL doesn't have the shot could be a valuable asset in our scoring scheme. Teams are starting to lock in on our shooters and not giving them any easy looks which should create some driving opportunities on hard close outs. Just not 100% sure that TC likes his perimter guys driving to often. The zone is very active but very easy to miss assignements, many times I watch and swithces with the guards are not called or called let leading to open looks or the defender chasing from behind as the offense cuts through the lane. This puts us in a bad position and usually results in a dumb foul which is definately not where we need to be with our limited depth due to injuies and youth. Some good things have been observed but a lot still needs to happen for successful season. Certa Bonum Certamen

I notice how certain folks have conspired and has decided not to reply to my post primarily because you think I am somebody else of just because you are a bunch of old farts in your chair back seats and wheelchairs ( no pun). I didn't graduate from Iona but did attend a Catholic high school and follow all Irish schools. Many of you think that your Goal club contributions entitle you to TC strategy and approvals from you. NOT. I have some insight that I thought would be good to share with you for fun and resource but as usual and from my past from the Catholic school I attended...if you are not in the clique, you are on the outside looking in. so keep your secret society, your useless predictions and your hope that the coaching staff will start kissing your a** someday. Hell you will be lucky to have TC for another year should they make another tournament appearance. So enjoy the ride because the road may thin out sooner than you think.
Guy...you keep it real on here by being brief and abrasive but now I see why...you are dealing with a bunch of spoiled brats who think they deserve extra because of what they pay not because they are donating to true allegiance. most are retired and have extra time on their hands, just enough to come up with bogus theories on what TC should be doing. Some are crazy others are fairly reasonable. The latter is the least.
Drunk texting....why YES of course.

unowho, why all the hate? I don't understand it. However, reference your post, I agree with a lot of it, but just want to remind you of something I posted and heard again from the TV crew doing last Saturday's SJU-FU game. "Long shots lead to long rebounds." Thus, many rebounds are run down and not grabbed by undersized guys crashing the boards. As for Guy's posts this is his board but he posts mainly on the MAAC board, which deals with posters who have, imo, little to no bb knowledge.

Unowho.....I enjoyed and welcomed your posts when they stuck to basketball...I was impressed with your knowledge of the game and wondered if you were involved in coaching or another function of the sport....BUT......
When you wandered away into a diatribe of personnel nature it revealed a juvenile side that hopefully in time matures to match your basketball knowledge...
Calm down...There are many ways of making your points without borderline insults...

To be fair, there are several very BB knowledgeable posters on the MAAC board but it seems many of them prefer smack.

unowho... I think you are jumping to a conclusion based on a preconceived idea. I understand the clique thing but I do not see that as an issue on this board. In TC's first year great deal of information, especially regarding recruitment, flowed from the program. Now TC and his staff are much tighter with information. I think this frustrates some people because they were used to the old method but I am a firm believer that "loose lips sink ships" and appreciate the new approach. There are a few "insiders" on this board who do get some info that they can share but in many cases are forced to withhold the info because the staff want to keep some things in house. As a whole I think you will find this forum to be much more reasonable to deal with than many of the other college hoops forums. As for TC... he has forgotten more about hoops than any of us will ever know and he knows the strengths and weakness of our team better than anyone else. There is a reason that he gets paid to do his job and we don't. With that said, fans are always going to question coaches and players as the word "fan" is short for "fanatic".... and the definition of "fanatic" is "a person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal"... so you can see how people get a bit carried away at times during a rough moment. On this forum we have some super optimists, some optimists, some level headed people and a few occasional downers but they all give a shit about Iona and Iona hoops. Besides, if the world all thought like me it would be too perfect... right? You have 51 posts so far so I think some folks are trying to figure you out. Keep the posts coming as I think you add to the mix in a good way. I think you need to be less thin skinned and a little less abrasive but like I said the world would be too perfect if you all behaved like I do. As for the "old farts" comment. I assume you are Irish (as am I) since you said you follow all Irish schools. There is an old Irish saying " As the old cock crows, the young cock learns." Maybe you should ask a few of these "old farts" what their backgrounds are as I think you will be amazed at what you can learn from many of them.

LOL. I go away a couple days and everything goes to hell out here!
Unfortunately I've been overwhelmed with other priorities lately, and all things Iona have had to take a back seat. I've already missed two home games and I already know I'll be missing Saturday's as well.
The thing to remember about message boards is that it's generally opinion, not facts, that everyone deals in. Often people who feel they are informed (myself include) are proven to be way off on even simple matters. Things can become a "battle of the sources" on the boards. People aren't going to take you seriously unless you're right at least most of the time. I've been wrong about stuff on these boards a good amount, but I've been right a whole lot, too. The key thing--especially on a team board, as opposed to the MAAC board--is that we all want to see Iona do well, though even the term "well" has its own definitions among us.
One other thing re boards: team boards are meant for analysis, the MAAC board is more for just pure juvenile fun. It's easier for me to peek in on the MAAC board and select a thread and read along just for the sheer entertainment value (such as a Siena game thread after they get shelled) than it is to come here to read various threads analyzing every iota relating to Gaels hoops, which honestly can become overkill.
Anyway, I wanted to pop by to explain my absences and to ensure the inmates were not running the asylum. Carry on and behave yourselves, and remember that for even the most diehard fans among us that it's just a bunch of kids playing a game.
