............A GREAT DAY TO BE A GAEL. To borrow a phrase from Coach Grasso. Think of the following:
1. Kate "The Great" Avery finishes third in the Women's XC Championship. Previous Iona best, on the ladies' side, was a 21st place finish. And in doing so, cemented a claim that she is our greatest Women racer, ever. And she's only a sophomore. Fantastic. 2. Our Men's XC team finishes in sixth place. Not our best, but for a team that had little or no pub, this was quite an accomplishment. Talk about flying under (way under) the radar. Very unexpected, which makes it all the more enjoyable. 3. And for those in attendance (or had IC Insider) you were treated to a very enjoyable brand of bb, Tim Cleuss style. For a while I couldn't keep score because the points were being scored in bunches. And in the process Iona crowned a new King of Long Distance. Hopefully someone will come up with a better title for Sean. 4. And while our Men's Water Polo and Women's VB teams lost they were in the Playoffs and both gave a good accounting of themselves.
As I said, it was a great day to be a Gael.
