The reigning MAAC POW, Damika Martinez, had 42 points, tonight, in Iona's 83-67 win over Columbia. Despite playing ONLY 27 minutes, Damika shot 17-22 and 6-9 from deep. She was also 2-2 from the foul line and had five rebounds and three assists. A fantastic performance, and while I'm not sure, I'm guessing that it's a record breaking performance, but we'll have to wait on SID for that. Also, don't know why she only played 27 minutes as the stat sheet shows her for zero fouls. A story should be out tonight on the official Iona site about the game. All I can say is congratulations Damika!!

I was just about to post this. Great job by Damika and all the Gaels. Couls have threatened the Men's record if given the minutes. 6-2!

JMO, but I think that she would have scored 60, if she stayed in, but I'm sure that the coach did the right thing by pulling her. And SID, what the heck is Twitter? I never see him, or her, posting on this board?

Can they compete with Marist thi year.? Are they that good? Anyone? The Marist women's team dropped its first 3 OOC games this year, losing to Kentucky, Albany and Princeton. After that they beat Bowling Green and lost to Ohio State, so after 5 games they were 1-4. Since then they have won 3 straight, with wins over Old Dominion, St. Bonaventure and Quinnipiac. Thus they are 4-5 for the season. I haven't seen Marist play, but based on their results thus far, I would give the Lady Gaels a very good chance to be competitive with them.

Too early to tell. Just my opinion, but while we have closed the gap, I still think Marist is better. Our biggest problem, as always, will be dealing with their size. You never know. It is a two team league, Possibly three, as Quinni might be good. None of the other teams are even close.
