The good news is, according to our website we've already won Friday nights game against Quinnipiac 88-74. Maybe Nostradamus predicted the game outcome in one of his quatrains (Century II, #19) "Newcomers (Quinnipiac), place built without defense (Iona's Hynes Athletic Center), Place occupied then uninhabitable..." I interpret this to mean that Quinny will visit Iona, but will find it to be inhospitable, and will lose an offensive battle with the Gaels. Yeah, that's how the scholars generally interpret that. Or its the Alamo.

Have to disagree. Maybe a couple, but 7? On a few occasions I saw guys either out of position or just standing while the ball sailed over there head. I will say, oddly, Laury was the exception. Only had 6 rebounds, but also had a couple of steals down low because he was fighting for the ball. One reason is they don't box out well. All the effort in the world won't help much if you don't box out. There were a number of times in the 2nd half where Siena had 3 or 4 chances off of missed shots. There would be four or five players in the paint and Siena seemed to want the ball more. A number of times it looked like DL was just standing there flat footed looking around. If we have any available scholarships in the 2014-15 season, recruiting rebounders should be top priority.

I think Shack Scott would've helped. Mike Haynes too. Can't really count Randall b/c we never had him. How is Robinson doing?

If we ever win this again, is there another trip to Dayton? It will be a close call. We can only hope that we have to worry about that!

Bowman, despite getting knocked down on the court 4 or 5 times today, really had a fine game. When he's on, like today, he is quite a weapon. Also Isaiah Williams played very well both offensively and defensively. I'm looking forward to a game when Bowman, English, Armand and Williams are all "on" draining threes; maybe we can exceed the 118 point game if that happens. Look-as the season progresses, these kids will understand that they have the talent to win with the 4 you mentioned + Laury with Poole, Sledge, and Gomez off the bench- lots of talent and firepower. They have to realize that they have the capacity--but will they realize it will come down to the small things. They did last year in Springfield.

"Remember the name Isaiah Williams. Scored 20 points on 10 shots + grabbed 6 rebounds in Gaels win over Siena. The X-Factor in New Rochelle."twitter.com/JonRothsteinGuys, I know I've been talking about this kid since last spring. I don't know anything about his emotional makeup, but I believe he has the potential to be a MAAC POY candidate down the road. He was deferring to the vets early on, but he has the tools to take over a game in many different ways. I mentioned to some that I thought he was Sean Green-like with more quickness.

IW also had three assists, zero turnovers and two steals. It seemed to me that he could have beaten his man off the dribble, any time he wanted. And while he and Tre played great, I was most pleased with the play and minutes that Gomez (13) and Sledge (17) put up. Also thought that DL played hard, but he's our ONLY rebounder.

Just speaking for myself I never doubted IW's talents as much as I questioned how reliable he would be given all of the off the court difficulties he was dealing with (and understandably so). Although he did seem a bit tentative and one dimensional earlier in the year, but it seems like he is playing on another level as of late. Let's hope that all of the distractions are behind him and IW can find a long time home at Iona, we are all pulling for him.

I hope members of this board realize how fortunate we are that we have a coach who is willing to tinker with lineups and rotations. His experimentation serves two purposes player motivation and finding chemistry. Too often Head Coaches stick with starters and specific rotations. A good coach tells each player individually from the start what he expects, no mystery. If they go counter they lose opportunities. I am very happy that the coaching staff and teammates were quietly supportive of Isaiah Williams. It appears that support has helped Isaiah on the court and hopefully off the court. This Coach has patience, not forcing players before they are ready. Very good player development. As Coach Cluess has stated in the past he has a responsibility to prepare them for life after basketball. That is the type of coaching philosophy that Iona College should be supporting. Let's keep our eye on the prize the MAAC Tournament Championship. We will have stumbles along the way, just pray for good health. We still have surprises to come, enjoy the ride. Let's GO GAELS!

Phenomenal numbers....In the 8 MAAC games so far we have scored 760 points for a remarkable average of 87.5...IMO No other conference member in college basketball has numbers anywhere near that, and I would be willing to wager that it would be a record or close to it in College Div.1 basketball history at this stage of the season..... I can just hear coaches telling their team before the games ''We got to stop Armand and English, They are Iona's main weapons''.....Then their team goes out and does just that, but Bowman and Williams come up with a combined 45 points, 9 threes, and 12 rebounds... You can't have everything, but if we were able only to play a reasonable defense...

A modicum of D and a smidgeon of rebounding and we are looking at an additional 5 wins so far this season. I watched the sienna highlight video on icgaels.com www.icgaels.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=14900&ATCLID=209380122 Yeah, it is a highlight reel but one has to be impressed with how well we share the ball in that game. I think IW is starting to move really well without the ball, and the guys are finding him. One of my favorites is the pick and roll from Sledge to David about half way through the clip. It has to be hard to play at such a pace on offense and still have the energy to play D for the 35 second clock with a short bench. We have to do it if we want log another 20 win season. Anyone see KU beat Oklahoma State Saturday? The KU 7' freshman controlled the rim on the defensive end. It makes it awfully easy for the guards to play D when you got a guy like that bailing you out.
