Or rather a POSSIBLE project for an intern in SID's office. As we all know Carmello Anthony scored 62 points, Friday night, breaking Bernard King's single game mark of 60 points. King in 1984 broke Richie Guerin's mark of 57, which was set in 1958. My question is, when did the three point shot come to the NBA.
Since Mello had six threes and IF Richie Guerin had none (if there wasn't a 3 pt shot in 1958) then comparing apples to apples, Guerin would have 57 to 56 for Mello. But what about King? Was there a three point shot in 1984, and, if so, how many did King have when he scored 60? SID, is it possible to have someone look into this and possibly issue a press release prior to Friday night's ceremony. IMO, it would get some media attention, because at worst, apples to apples, Richie would still be second, and POSSIBLY first.

If I remember correctly and chances are highly likely that I don't, the 3 pt shot was an ABA invention that came to the NBA when the leagues merged. So I'm gonna say yes King had it at his disposal. Now I'll allow for correction when someone does the research.

Melo got 62 with a lot of time left, they would have left him in until he broke the record, even if Guerin had 3 pointers, melo would have broken the record.

How many minutes did Richie play? And how many FG attempts did they (he and Mello) have?
